New to Zs - 2009 Black 7AT
Well, I bought me a Z last year, 2009 Black 7AT Sport/Touring w/ 40K miles. LOVE it! I have built a couple of boosted Rx7s and just getting too domesticated I guess. Tried an Rx8 but it was too slow with very few options for me. Parted out my last 7 and wanted something I could drive to work if I want but still mod out and have fun with.
Went with my first automatic sports car. Back story, I had traded in my wife's beloved Wrangler Unlimited (not for this, different car) but turns out she really was not ready to get rid of it at all. I thought maybe if I got something she could drive too it, 7AT, it would help with her loss.. Well... lets just say we now have three vehicles: Our Yukon to travel and tow a camper with, a newer 2014 Wrangler (got it two weeks ago), and my Z Her new jeep is nicer than what she had and takes the guilt away. Hence the new interest in the forum and getting into modding. That all being said, I am so impressed with the 7AT I have not regretted it once. Just got my Invidia Gemini CBE but still have to install and looking at HFCs. Looking at the FI resonated ones out of fear of rasp with the others. I have K&N typhoon intakes on it now but selling those to try out a stillen or Z1. Cool sound but want to see if I can notice any gains out of long tubes. Will probably round it out with a Z1 manifold and a tune since I am not far from them at all. Would love to supercharge but want to pace myself. |

From experience with my 370 and 350z,do not expect much from the intakes in the way of real gains. Never could figure out the change to intakes that have the filters within
the front bumper(need to remove same to change/clean). IMO,the biggest bang for the buck is HFC's. I have ones from Z1 on my 350. They work great. Expect your exhaust to be louder after install of HFC's. Never had any rasp. A proper tune after you do your mods(intake,HFC,manifold)is needed. Z1 did my 350 with AT. Set up the trans to more crisp shifts. Take care who does the tune as all the guys at Z1 do not have the same level of expertise. John is the best. |
