Stillen HFC observations

Finally got the Stillen HFC's installed today to go along with the Stillen CBE as well as the Stillen Gen 3 CAI. The install was pretty easy (as expected) and doesn't take long at all. I got the HFC with the extenders as I didn't want to risk setting off the CEL. Here's some notes;

1. The combination of all 3 (CBE, CAI and HFC) really makes the car come alive. Each bolt on was installed at different times so I could see, hear and feel what each one did.
2. I love the tonality of the exhaust with the HFC's. Even my wife said it sounded "beastly". She couldn't care less about cars in general. To me, the Stillen HFC only magnifies the tone and adds a little aggression to it.
3. There's a little rasp to it as well but it's fairly minimal. For someone who lives in a quiet uptight suburban neighborhood, the tone is perfect.

Obviously, everyone has their opinions on CAI's, CBE's and HFC's but for someone who was looking to increase HP, throttle response as well as change the overall "tone" of the car. I couldn't be happier.

Next on list for next month is the tune and the dyno. I'll post the results as well. Happy holidays to all...

Glad you like the Stillen HFCs. I picked up a used set from a forum member a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to install them yet.

I was wondering about the rasp, but sounds like it shouldn't be too bad. Going to run them with the stock CBE for the time being.

Memphis370z - the rasp is minimal. The install is easy. You might not need them but the extenders aren't a bad idea. I'm curious to see how much you like them.

Yeah, thankfully, the extenders came with the cats, so I should be in good shape. How many socket extensions did you have to use to access the top bolts and were they a PITA to loosen? Also, did you use ramps or jack stands?

Stock exhaust plus HFC=RASP

the OP has minimal rasp because he has a aftermarket exhaust that is free flowing.

Guess I may be shopping for a CBE sooner than I had planned. I'll put the HFCs on and see whether or not I can live with the results. Appreciate the feedback though.

Memphis370z I was able to use a lift which made it easier. I used wobble extensions to get everything off. If i were to do it all over again, i probably should have done the cbe and hfc at the same time but I did the cbe first. I totally agree with David 370z. If you do the hfc first, you'll get significantly more rasp. As for CBE's, the good news is that this forum is great resource to find the one that's best for you.

memphis370z I forgot about the bolts. They were on pretty good but they weren't a PITA. Good thing you got the extenders as well, you saved yourself about 40 bucks.

Thanks for the info, 12155ny. I've been online for the last two hours looking for a CBE. Might as well install both the HFCs and the CBE at the same time, like you mentioned. I don't think I'll be able to live with the rasp for too long. Glad I asked about it and that you and DavidZ370 gave me your feedback.
