Titanium wrapping stock headers while still on the car..
Has anyone done this? I figure while I have stuff pulled apart during my stage 1.5 GTM supercharger build, if I can, I'd like to wrap the stock headers as best I can. What I'd like to know, is has anyone done it? Do you think its possible? Any reason not to attempt it?

Why? The OE headers have a heat shield on it. A metal heat shield with an airspace like OEMs use works great. I think it would be wasted effort.

I don't think you will need to even bother with it, bro. The way the OEM header is designed with the heat shield, should keep her cool enough.

alright sweet, thanks everyone. just wasnt sure how well the stock heat shield worked and figured if it helped, might as well do it with everything pulled apart.. trying to keep everything in there as cool as possible

Just a FYI. You want to keep the exhaust gas hot as possible until it exits the car. The change in temp/condensing of gas causes back pressure due to the cooler exhaust gas moving slower. You would need to wrap the whole exhaust=not worth it. Wrapping your intake on the other hand can help to prevent heat soak from the engine.

they do let off quite a lot of heat and i reckon it's the main reason the area around the strut towers gets so hot. you can feel it on the outside of the bonnet.
for NA setups, it heatsoaks your intake pipes and maf sensor blocks. i'm considering wrapping the stock headers, in situ. but i'll do it with less overlap to avoid cooking them like most people warn about. |
