2013 AEM Intake install trouble
I am installing the AEM intakes on my 2013 370z. They fit great and were not any trouble installing at all. I watched plenty of videos on removing the front bumper and all and the install of G3's as well. That was not the issue at all. Everything is plugged in, hoses are all tight. Car starts up, sounds normal, but have a check engine light right away and car is definitely in limp mode.
I have reset the ECU by both unplugging the negative terminal, which was also disconnected during entire install and I also reset the ecu using the pedal method. Im not sure if the AEM modules work on the 2013 as they have only tested to 2011. I dont really see what could be different, but that could very well be the case. Or perhaps one of my modules is bad as I did by the intakes used. Any help from anyone who has installed intakes with a similar outcome would be greatly appreciated. The car is sitting with the negative battery terminal unplugged and awaiting my next move. Which will more then likely be re-installing my stock intakes and praying the SES is gone. I hope. lol |

I have called AEM. They have only tested up to model year 2011. They have not tested for the 2012 or 2013. So they were not a huge help for me. Which I understand as they have not tested it themselves yet.
I will end up removing these, modifying the module harness to be more of a maf extender harness by bypassing the module itself and then getting a tune. I would like some other parts before getting a tune though, so that will have to wait. I can take my time on the harness itself and make sure it comes out really nice. No worries. I am going to swap the modules themselves, 1 as to re-assure that they are both snug and not side dependant, start the car and see what happens. Its not a big deal though. I was hoping they worked, but got it at a steal knowing it might not. |

Sometimes the check engine light could trip but doesn't mean anything wrong per say.
I have AEM and for the most part light is off but sometimes comes on, I notice more so happens if its a rainy day. As far as limp mode, so your saying your can't get over about 3500 rpm when driving? Is it a flashing check light? You could be right about the 2013 model issue. But also maybe see if you can do the reset procedure not the battery disconnect.

Well, it was packaged exceptionally well and there was actually some packing that was still in the intake tube. When I was removing them it was at the throttle body and my heart dropped. Thankfully nothing seemed to go into the plenum. Re installed, drove around the block and all is well. Car revs freely. Sounds great. And no SES lights to speak of.
As is this needs to be repeated, taking your time and checking EVERYTHING is very important. Im not a little kid and hate when I make mistakes like this, but my ADHD gets the best of me at time and it happens. Thankfully nothing was damaged and all is well. On a happy note, it seems that the AEM intake will work on a 2013 with no issues at all. Install was simple and as of right now and about 3 miles of driving hard, no SES lights. I will update later this week. Initial driving impressions are better throttle response and toe-in. Sound is not overly aggressive or loud, but just about right. |

Just wanted to follow up and say that my car is doing great. I have had zero issues with my intakes thus far. I have put about 350 miles on the car since the install. I feel like there is a pickup in power and love how they sound. Go AEM.

I was suppose to drop my car off at AEM earlier this year for them to run some R&D on 2013s but since my car was modified & I didn't want to return it to 100% stock, they didn't run any tests.

I do still plan on eventually jumping the boxes though and getting a dyno tune. |

Just continuing to note, I now have 10k miles on my car with these intakes. Car runs strong, pulls hard, takes a beating and I haven't had any trouble. Love my Z's.
