Stillen CBE installed - rev limiter issue
Just had the Stillen CBE installed. Simply put, it's bad *** but I am not saying anything new here (there are tons of great CBE's on the market - none of them are a poor choice). It is my birthday present to myself so the wife and I had a nice afternoon while it was installed earlier today. When I got it back home, did some revs in my garage just to really hear it when I noticed I couldn't get the revs past 5 grand. Not sure if there is "break in" period while the ECU gets adjusted or if it's something else (sensor). Anyone else experience this? Thanks.

The car's ecu prevents revving past 5k while still to avoid overheating since there is no airflow through the radiator. It's a normal thing.
If you want it to go beyond 5k, you'll have to be moving or have the 5k limiter removed in a tune.

Not good to rev with no load, it's a safety mechanism to prevent damage. If you put it in 1st and hold the clutch in, you can rev it up to redline.

Good to know...totally appreciate the input guys. Just took it out for a quick spin (mostly just to listen the tone of the car) and checked the revs as well which were fine. On a side note, the rwhp gains are palpable with the Stillen CBE...good grief!!!!

Wise choice my Z friend! I love my stillen CBE as well. Look into the gen III it compliments the exhaust in a good way too. But i had the same issue a awhile back. what everybody else said with the rev limiter.

All you have to do is engage the clutch all the way in. And rev to the sky!! Just dont release the clutch untill your revs have gone back down. Ive seen this happen. Not a pretty sight....was halarious tho. For bystanders. Or while your moving as well.

Just out of curiousity, did you put the exhaust on first and the CAI? Or vice versa or did both go on at the same time? Was interested in knowing if you really tell the difference with each add on...

I had the CBE for about a year then i put the Gen III on about 3 weeks ago. But i did notice a difference in sound, power, and the engine seems to run better too. Next thing on my list is test pipes and a tune to sum it all up.
I could really tell a diff. in top end with putting on the CBE. Then almost a year later the Gen III, it seems like i got my low end back and more top end power too. But that is just from my buttdyno. The Torque Ap said i had 75 more hp but that is a BS way to measure anything. But none the less if my but and my wife's butt can feel it then it has made more powa! |

Masterbeatty did you throw a cell for just having Stillen CBE, GEN 3 Intakes? How many miles have you put on the car with that combo? Reason I ask is I want to go this route but others on this forum have indicated that they are getting a cell with your described combo of breather mods.
