NISMO owners installing Stillen Exhaust please read
I spent many hours after the installation of my Stillen CBE onto the NISMO and had plenty of frustration with fitment. If you are having issues with fitment, this will hopefully shed some light.
I had the left section of exhaust hanging down after repeated fitment attempts. After unbolting everything and fitting piece by piece to find where the problem was I found that there an additional bracket on the left side of the muffler section that was not welded but bolted on to the vehicle. The exhaust hanger will strike and create a good bit of tension with this bracket in place. You need to remove this bracket! There is a 12mm bolt holding it, just take out the bolt and the bracket will be free to work with. Once the bracket has been removed from the vehicle you can then remove the rubber hanger by unfastening the 12mm bolt holding it to the bracket itself. You are then left with the hanger and two 12mm bolts, 1 short/1 long. Use the longer bolt to re-attach your hanger. Your new placement of the hanger will go where the shorter bolt originally was. DONE! I am not sure why anyone including Stillen has been faced with this issue yet but I did not see it in the instructions and have not found any postings about it, hope this saves some un necessary bending of anything. Good Luck! Last edited by mjohn617; 02-10-2011 at 03:57 PM. |

Oh I guess I could have posted a little on that:
When I first put on the test pipes I had the NISMO exhaust. Very noticable difference when you clutch in from a stop. The bottom end became very responsive, but it really did seem like a triple beam scale effect. I felt that I had lost some top end and put it on the bottom, not really gaining anything. I didn't confirm this untill I put the cats back on. The car is much smoother now when clutching in and gliding through gears...but slower on the bottom...back to its origianal tune. This loss in top end might have been fixed with a tune in the first place , that is a whole different issue. So, back to the Exhaust, I can't really tell any noticable difference with the exhuast itself in any RPM range. But again I have changed two key aspects of the car(TP,CBE) so thats that. As far as the sound goes...BOOYAH! I love the sound, I love the no drone, no rasp, light pedal/light sound and WOT notes that...sing! Stillen has been in the game for too long to not expect anything else. I really don't think there would be any physical numbers to show either, the 18hp difference between the Base model and the NISMO I believe is due to the NISMO exaust in the first place, can't get the 18hp gain twice! Having said that, I really want to get this baby breathing! Fast Intentions long tube headers, CAI, and some other lightening of pullys, flywheel, etc I think would really wake this motor up. Until I figure out this rasp issue I am not willing to do anything else. You have to remove that bottleneck (cats) before adding everything else, if you want to talk about gains concentrate on your VE, that will set you free! If rasp is something you don't want, I recommend not getting the LTH's as that is what they will give you. Not to say that it's not pleasant if you want that. But that if you don't want it, just stick to HFC's or your TP's. And if you do decide to go with the LTH's, I recommend getting a free-er flowing exhaust than the Nismo/Stillen to allow for the increased airflow from the LTH's. Is it just me or (based on that pic) does it look like the left tip is lower than the right one?

I actually got it fixed..took a bit of new gaskets and swearing. it's in explanation in the first post on this thread.
I knew about the ECU and exhaust...what was done with the intake? And as for the rasp, I have a personal vendetta out for that sound! I am going to find it and squash it! there is a mess of posts on the 350z forum talking about the same crap. Someone has had to have figured something out... Well the way to defeat rasp is with cats/resonators... Without those, it's just a fact of containing combustion in small metal tubes
