COBB Silicone Intake Tubing
Anyone tried the COBB Silicone intake tubing? It looks like it would improve airflow by removing the corrugated portion of the stock intakes. I'm not sure if this is the real restrictive element though. I'd love to see some dyno numbers. They're relatively inexpensive, but are a decent down payment on a real CAI. Thoughts?

Nice find! This woulda made my job a LOT easier and only a few bucks more than my fabbed up hoses. These are a no brainer...
We're gonna go this way when I build the intake for Zpirates car.. Last edited by Modshack; 02-03-2010 at 02:00 PM. |

So, Modshack, you think they are worth the $125 and potentially negate the need for a full CAI? Obviously they don't make the intake air 'cold', but the stock airboxes do a better job of cool air intake than any of the short tube options out there. My guess is these hoses may make a measurable dyno gain.

I'd be interested to see if there are any gains if you replaced those sections of the stock intake with this.
From what we've seen so far is that the stock intakes flow very well up until the very top of the RPM range... that's where the LT intakes actually gain over stock. I don't know if those sections of the pipe become a restriction or if it's something else, but it's pretty clear that the stock units are pretty good.

Everytime I see these I always think why not at least buy a short ram but since there are 2 intake on this car the money adds up quick.

Short rams pull air from the engine bay. The stock boxes are nicely designed to pull air from the radiator. Pull out the drop-in filter and have a look. The stock system is better than any short rams you can find.

What is the reason for most cars having the corrugated tubes, ease of fitment or does this help break up the air flow, kind of like how a spoiler will decrease drag. Maybe it increases the air flow, I'm no engineer, but it's not like it would be any more expensive for Nissan just to use smooth hoses there. Most vacuum cleaner hoses are corrugated, got to be a reason.
