Default Losing my mind with P2096/P2098 errors after a tune

So I got a stage 2 tune from Z1 motorsports in October last year. Went really well until last month, I got the SES light on the dash. Checked regular maintenance and everything is good, ran the codes to find it's actually P2096/P2098. Here are my mods:

CBE with resonated test pipes
Resonated HFCs
Z1 2.5" Cold Air Intake

So these errors are from the HFCs, right? Is it actually running lean or is this related to the O2 sensor? I reached out to the Z1 tuner and they will not deactivate or change the codes. I'm trying to learn about this and the solutions seem really ambiguous. I'm pretty new to this as you can tell.

I have some thoughts, but no idea what will actually work. Spacer/defouler for the O2 sensor? Revert to stock tune temporarily? Put the stock cats back on temporarily?

I really don't know. I'm trying to pass inspection and I'm losing my mind trying to troubleshoot. In my county they use OBD2 for emissions, so I need to clear the code and ideally find out what exactly is wrong. Any feedback would be really appreciated

These codes are for downstream/secondary oxygen sensors that are responsible for monitoring a proper functioning catalytic converters. You have HFC and those usually will throw codes periodically. Some tuners will disable the monitoring of the cat but then if you need emissions inspection, it would not pass. You can try extended bungs on the sensors. Some had a good luck with those or invest cheap obd scanner and just clear the codes when needed.

So nothing to worry about with the car itself (leaks, wrong air/fuel ratio)?

I'll try the scanner. I hear you need to drive ~20-50 miles after clearing the codes or they cannot perform the inspection, so I'll look into that. Appreciate it

Actually those codes can be due to exhaust leaks around the cat. Often the aftermarket HFC uses the triangular flat style gaskets which will almost always leak. I would suggest checking for exhaust leaks between the header and the cat - the past 2 people who came to me with those codes had stock cats that someone had re-installed and they didn't use oem crush ring gaskets and leaks developed causing the codes.

Send me a message if you would like me to review the logs from the tune and help you narrow down the problem. Leaving this issue will result in the ruined cats because the ecu will add extra fuel to light-off the cat to reduce emissions. I'd suggest digging in and solving the problem or at least gaining confidence in the cause.

Also, from my understanding, and confirmation from tuner, latest versions of Ecutek will not allow bypassing of CAT sensors. Not sure about Uprev.

If your tuner is not willing to do it, that's their legal department.

However, I agree with last comment. Check for leaks first.

I recommend this advice 100%. I'm tuned by Eugene with high flow cats, been working with him for years, and never had this issue.
