Question Question about catalytic converter bolts

Hi guys, fellow Z noob here.

I just have a quick question about swapping back on my oem cats for emission testing because I just got state reffed last week by the Santa Ana CHP.

Just like many other owners, each side of my cat have a stud that is completely broken off and has a half inch thread left over. Can I just tighten the two out of the three bolts/nuts? It'll be a 10 minute drive down to the nearest state referee station, or will I have an exhaust leak and not pass the testing.

If it will cause issues instead, I'll try to drill it out, but just a bit of hassle. Sorry if this have been posted in the forums before, I don't really know what to search for about this topic. Thanks!

Default

Why not just drill it out and replace it with a test pipe/HFC bolt from what you're currently using? Using 2/3 might result in an exhaust leak so no need to even chance it.

Drill it out. Otherwise you will have an exhaust leak. Why take a chance.
