AAM Resonated Short Tail Fitment (Need help!!)
Whats up fellas,
Got the Resonated Short Tail's installed yesterday..sound great but definitely not happy with the fitment...There is an option to get polished or burnt titanium tips. I went with the polished to keep the stock look going. They are not welded on and are adjustable. These things are sticking way out and look like rice cannons the way they are on now! But I have no other way to put them on as my pics show!! l Left side has about 1/2 in + of clearance on the inside of the tip so I would be able to slide that one back quite a ways and get a stocks look. The right side has no more clearance for the pipe and if I push the tip any farther in the pipe will start to protrude through the tip. Just wondering if anyone else has the tails and had to do any extra modification to get them to fit better. The video on AAM website by Bros fourr speed shows the tips nicely tucked under the rear lip fitting just like stock...pretty disappointed to be honest! |

Initially I had to mess with the hangers to get them to be centered, never had a length issue. But I do have the old nismo rear bumper, not sure if AAM modified anything for the 15 bumper which is why is may seem to stick out more.

I just installed mine, also a 2017 Nismo.
Yeah, it's not the most accurate fitment. I struggled with getting the heights matched. Left side sticks up a bit higher. 2 shims on left upper hangar, and none on R/H. As for them sticking out. I basically placed the pipe flush with the inside lip of Tip. ( as you have shown) They stick out nice for me. I don't think you're goinf to get better than that. VERY LOUD now! |

I have a question for ya..I was grabbing my bag out of the trunk the other day after driving and my leg hit the tip and gave me a quick burn! I was really shocked how hot the tips were. Hot enough that you could only quickly tap them with your hand for a second or so. I don't know if the tips on the stock muffler got this hot as I never checked. Definitely don't want them distorting the paint/plastic on the bumper long term..let me know how hot yours get after driving if you don't mind. I doubt this could be anything to do with the way the car is running because its such a small mod that the eco would adjust to..anyways if you could let me know much appreciated..thanks!! Also see my comment above about how hot my tips are getting..any info you can provide on that would be helpful..I was almost thinking of putting on the stock muffler when I take off the tails to cut them just to see how hot those tips get in comparison. Would hate to see the bumper discolored or burnt like one of those ricer civics... |

I did do a touch test after a long drive. Wasn't scolding hot but warm-hot. I think there is enough airflow during drive that that shouldn't be an issue. Now, on a hot day, in traffic, I may be a little more wiery. Weather has been on the cool side in my part of the world. I will re-post during the hotter months. Yes, been getting some good advice on my other post. Not many "Muffler" options for axle back. Just deletes and cat-backs or full systems. For NISMO anyway. For now, I love the sound and look for more options. |

That is hard believe I have installed five AAM resonated and non-resonated short tail exhaust kits and I never once had a problem with the fitment or length of the exhaust tips sticking out. Also the quality of this exhaust kit is excellent comparing to others. You have to adjust it to get the exhaust tips completely straight but it just takes some time. If you can’t get it right yourself take your Z to a reputable exhaust shop and they can adjust your exhaust and get it straight for you.

He wouldn't be the first person with that issue. AAM is hit and miss on stuff like that.
