About to purchase a F.I. Exhaust and HFC Question
Hi Guys,
I about to purchase the F.I. Non-resonated HFC, so that's already going to make the car sound loud just with that alone, right? If i go with the non-resonated exhaust system, it might be too loud? I am trying to go for a loud deep but smooth sound if I can. I don't want it to sound nasty, like when people cut their exhaust to get the raspy noise. Any suggestions. Thanks |

I have Berk HFC, and the non-resonated FI catback. It's not raspy at all. It's loud, but not to loud at all in my opinion. It's deep, it's smooth, it's loud when you get on it, but when you cruise, it's fine. I can listen to the radio, talk to people in the car. If you want a good sounding loud exhaust it'll be what you want.
It's exactly what I was going for. Too many people bought other exhausts and then complain about them barely being louder than factory. This is not that. Like I said when you accelerate it's loud, but as soon as you take your foot out of it and just maintain a speed, it's nice and mellow. No real drone either to speak of. I've been very happy with it. If you are one of those people that thinks you want a louder car but then really wants something that's still quiet for road trips, you're not going to like it. |

Alright thanks for you inputs. I will give F.I. a call. I have been emailing Kevin about this too.
Do the Berks HFC have resonators? I think in the end I will probably go with the non-resonator HFC and Exhaust. |

I have a video from the Dyno tune at Dynosty recently. I'm going to try and get some in car footage today actually. As the video from the dyno is in front of the car and really doesn't do the exhaust justice. Either way, you know how it is with watching videos, it's really hard to tell how loud something actually is. I do have a sound level meter as well, and I did take before measurements both in and outside the car of the stock exhaust, I still need to take after measurements though. Perhaps I'll get that done today. |

So I uploaded two different version of each video here. I normalize every video audio file I have because I hate things being different volume levels. However in this case, people might want to hear "un-molested" video file. However in this case the video recordings where really quiet I think, so I have uploaded both versions. First to Second rip, sort of a 0-60 I guess First to Second rip, sort of a 0-60 I guess (Original / No Audio Processing, will be quieter). Low speed cruising, leaving the neighborhood, etc. Low speed cruising, leaving the neighborhood, etc. (Original / No Audio Processing, will be quieter). |

About to purchase a F.I. Exhaust and HFC Question
I don't have any FI stuff, but I just got mine back on Friday from Dynosty and it screams when I stomp on it.
I tend to shift higher than OhioYJ, so mine does tend to rasp at about 3k. I've got Motordyne headers and HFCs with Borla catback. Definitely going to take some getting used to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have the non res exhaust and non res test pipes. I have the 18 resonated x pipe and res hfcs too. Honestly all the combinations sound great. The deepest was the 18 res x pipe with the res hfcs. I wanted more volume, so now I run non res everything and love it. It still sounds relatively smooth.

I have had the 18" resonated CBE + RHFC for a few weeks now. While waiting I was concerned that it might be too quiet, since all that I have read here was giving me that impression, but for ME, it's perfect. Wouldn't want it any louder to be honest. About an hours drive in the car with my girlfriend, she admitted she was a bit fatigued from the sound. Do note, this was city driving, stop and go - not cruising.
Would I still like it if it was louder ? Probably. |

I'm fairly conservative....
So I kept the stock cats and went with the 18" res option.... after about a month of use, it just seems a lot quieter/maybe it's me. It's almost stock sounding above 4k rpms unless maybe at full throttle, and even so, it's seems about only 20% louder than stock at best. So now I'm entertaining HF resonated cats ($700) vs. non res x pipe ($???) (if you had to pick just one), which is probably going to be a low rpm drone vs. high rpm fun decision. Just wish it was a Porsche flat six... |

For $700 I would go with Motordyne ART pipes. They're slightly cheaper and seem to be yield the best hp/tq and cleanest sound Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

OK, I have the FI cat back with 18" resonators. There is a lot of subjective opinions on how loud or acceptable the sound is. So let's turn to science.
Stock readings in decibles Cold interior 81db Cold exterior 85db Warm interior 78db Warm exterior 80db FI Cold interior 92db Cold exterior 90db* was warming quickly in the summer, actually reading is likely a few db higher. Warm interior 79db Warm exterior 85db Remember every +3db doubles the amount of energy. +10db for perceived loudness. Personally I found upon initial install I loved the sound at idle, but it was much louder with drone at speed, depending upon load. It's a sound I've grown accustom too, but most of us do not use the Z for a daily driver, at least not for long distance. |
