Just Installed K&N Typhoon Air Intake
Just some quick impressions on the K&N typhoon air intake. First - before I get pounded with the "these posts are pointless without pictures and or videos" comments - My K&N set up looks exactly like the 500 other ones you can easily get access to. There are no videos because I listened to many of them on YouTube and you cant tell anything from the sound on a recording, especially a small change in sound color.
So having said the installation is straight forward; you will have a few skinned knuckles - It says 90 min install time, it took me 120; Though I have a horrible tool box and at least 45 min was searching for the right size socket or tool. Overall I'd say the positives are: - Looks great in the engine bay - No removing front bumper or cutting - and important for my area - the filters are high in the bay - not great for heat but wont get flooded out if I get into water more than 2" deep. - Sound - I thought I'd notice more of a difference - very minor- more like a color change - However - keep in mind I have a GT Haus-Miestershaft exhaust and it drowns out a lot. It does sound a little throatier and slightly more interesting. - No hiss; I'd thought I'd hear intake hiss - but no - its quiet at idle. -Finally - build quality of the K&N Kit is fantastic. I've bolted on a lot of kits before, up to and including turbocharging a Miata - and this one is well done, plus the instructions are complete for the most part. -Horsepower: Meh....did not notice any change. Who cares - looks great and sounds a little better. |

no cons from you?
i thought the bracket/shield design and install is horrible and the hoses are too small that enter the motor so i just used the stock ones also the plastic 90s for the intake tube i felt like i was going to snap any minute |

Your right about those plastic 90s; the brace and shield arrangement is a bit clunky; but as I noted, compared to other intake kits I've worked with it was better than most (all my experience is with other cars/ intake brands)

I noticed more sound change when I was accelerating and then hammered it above 4,000.
