Short air intake vs heat
I'have seen a lot of post about the short air vs long tube or what are the gains vs stock, but one question remain... What about the heat?
Let's take for example that I an thinking of getting K&N instead of my OEM intakes. Would it be a problem with the heat? If i am stuck into the trafic? Should i make custom piping? Thank you |

Either get an intake that moves the filters out of the engine bay, or stick with drop in filters and silicone maf tubes. Short ram intakes will heat soak badly. They show gains on a dyno with the hood open and a huge fan on it, but in the real world with a closed hood your intake air temperatures will be much higher than a CAI or even the stock setup.

Just search this topic, so much has been written and discussed about it in this forum. As a relatively new member to the forum myself, I can tell you that the search feature is a great tool. The short air tubes are a waste of $$$. Chuck is 100% dead on in his comments. There are plenty of options with the long tube CAI like Stillen, Z1, Nismo, etc. Cheers. |

Why do you think the oem plenum is Plastic?? Metal is really bad for heat soak. Heat=less timing, Less Timing =power loss and efficiency.
Just get a drop in filter and call it a day.. |

EDIT - That's why the OEM setup with drop in filters and silicone maf tubes works so well. It's still drawing outside air. You just leave a few HP on the table vs long tubes.
