Manifold Options
I’m a new Z owner and like almost every vehicle I’ve owned I’ve done at least an exhaust, intake and ECU upgrade. I’m no master mechanic so I’ve always left the stock N/A engines alone.
That being said one of the items that has peaked my interest as I comb though the forum is the new AAM Manifold about to come out. So I started looking into other options for upgrading the 370Z manifold and the pickens seem slim. Besides the upcoming AAM offering I’ve only come across the Z1, Motordyne and GTR conversion manifolds. Is that it for 370Z manifold upgrade options? |

That's it.
The GTR conversion will most likely only benefit the TT guys and the Z1 and Motordyne mani's are just ported stock mani's. The AAM mani is really the first real aftermarket manifold for the platform which is why so many are waiting to see what it does.

The RJ Manufacturing GTR conversions are now in testing and actually on cars. This will be a $2k upgrade and includes: fuel rails, lower plenum, crossover balance tube, hardware and gaskets. A GTR manifold can be had for as low as $450 used. All said and done less than $2500 with the ability to grow.
Testing is being done on TT and N/A cars... Full results should be in before ZdayZ on both accounts. They will also be present at ZdayZ and these are production units able to be purchased now. The AAM so far has not been put on a car for testing. We do not know if there will be any performance gains as of yet. There is pre oder in place but the date go pushed back to May for delivery. It will be a rush for them to have a unit on a running car for ZdayZ. I wouldn't expect much in the short term. This will also be a $2k upgrade and will only include the upper manifold. They are reusing the stock lower which could use some porting to be more efficient. The Z1 and Motordyne M370 are both great options. They both do the same thing but with a slightly different twist. I would go Z1 just because the cost is lower and the customer service is awesome. The Z1 guys will be at ZdayZ and you can talk to them directly about the product. There is one other option along the GTR line and that is Gamma Motorsports. Here is what I have to say with their unit. It is not inclusive and you have to buy all the parts that come in the RJ Manufacturing kit standard. Now I have a prototype unit and from what I can tell they have changed their production units and from a glance it looks as if it's worse off than my prototype unit. Also the Gamma guys are not technical guys and are really just selling a product someone else created. Now as far as customer service good luck!!!! Me and several others have had very bad experiences with the new gamma company. All in all for a budget N/A build I would go Z1 hands down! Best bang for your buck! Fr. a TT or SC build I would go RJ Manufacturing GTR since I have personally installed and inspected the unit in my garage and customer service has been great so far. We should have preliminary numbers hopefully today for the swap from the GTM prototype unit.

Thanks for the info. That GTR conversion is sexy to say the least but the Z1 seems the most practical. Of course it will be interesting to see what numbers both AAM and RJ put down.
If I was not so close to retirement and trying to save all my leave for terminal I'd be at ZdayZ in a heart beat, only 538 miles away. Might just have to drive up to the event on Friday after work. |
