Berk HFC Question
Hello,
I recently installed Berk HFC's in my otherwise stock system and when getting the demon bolts off, my father used an impact tool, we didn't get the stock cats out that day and the next day I got error code specifying Bank 1 Sensor 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 1 issues. Codes read and cleared and came back, same error. After Berk HFC's installed, codes cleared again and same error came back. So since Bank 1 sensor 1 is kinda sucky to get to, I took her into the dealership to get it replaced with my oil change. And they claim that the 2 O2 sensors in the Berk HFC's are actually the problem. They claim that Bank 1 Sensor 1 and Bank 2 Sensor 1 are functioning properly and that the real problem is that the two O2 Sensors in Berk HFC are not deep enough into pipe to get a good reading. So this begs the question, are they just goofballs? I have read that an ECU reset is required to stop CEL after Berk HFC install but not in reference to the sensors not being deep enough. Before the dealership said this, I was convinced the Bank 1 Sensor 1 was the issue, my father hit that side with a manual impact driver and the bolt didn't break free and the next day I got the error code, BEFORE removing stock cats. But now I'm just kinda lost. Any help or additional insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KBC Last edited by kbc749; 06-22-2015 at 01:56 PM. |

Did you disconnect the sensors before you used the impact tool? If not, they're probably ruined now. I've heard that the vibrations or whatever from power/impact tools will ruin the sensors.
Try replacing them and clearing the codes, and then see if they come back.

Op, Are these NEW Berks or used? I know the early Berks were prone to throwing codes so a little steel wool in the bung would fix it. |

CEL came on like 3 weeks after my berk hfc install, i didnt even wait, i just disconnected battery and it never came back on, so i guess it may have been a fluke? o.O

Answers to the questions above,
-Berk Hfc's are used. Hadn't considered this issue. Will look into it, although bought from this forum and owner was stand up guy and didn't have any issues. -Yes the O2 sensors in the cats were removed when my father used manual impact tool, but the O2 sensor in the header is the one that threw the code after impact tool was used, which I didn't even think of until after he was banging away. -I have cleared codes 3 times and the same code has come back every time The first time was before Berk units installed but after impact tool The second time was after Berk Install The third was when doing ASWC-1 install when I disconnected the battery. All 3 times the same code has returned. Now Nissan is claiming that the Berk HFC's are at fault for the issue. That the o2's in the Berk Units are getting no reading, causing the header O2 sensor to throw a code. But since I was throwing codes before the install this doesn't make sense to me. But they claim to have checked the whole system and all 4 of the Sensors are in proper working order. Any thoughts? |
