Sounds and problems after Takeda CAI install
So I finally waited until after break in period which wasn't the most pleasant. She has about 13XX miles on her.
I installed my Takeda CAI on her today even used the dremel to make the holes bigger to not restrict the tubing. As with my last car right at 5k rpm it sounds like almost like a blown tweater not horribly loud but enough to annoy the hell of out of me. So I also noticed I was hearing it at lower RPMS just not as noticable. I come back home and hear it consistently almost like static through a blown speaker. So I pop the hood and listen right at the intake manifold and every 10 seconds it makes a tick a tick a tick a tick a type noise for about 3-5 seconds. It did this at 5k with my 13 I only put about 100 miles on it but my 13 also already had a bad rattle from the shifter assembly. What could be causing this A/F ratio off that much just from a CAI. No Vacuum leaks I checked and double checked the fittings and made sure everything was sealed and tight. If it was just making it right at 4800 to 5500 like my last Nismo then I would understand but since it's consistent it can't be just because of load or harmonics of the engine at that RPM as I read and was told with my last. Any and all thoughts, advice and troubleshooting steps would be appreciated. It already has less power than my 13 WOT is barely noticeable. I don't really feel the power kick in at 5k like said 13. I'm just a little confused all around. Thinking G3's may be my answer? but I just dropped like 440 a couple months ago on this one. P.S. I do plan on an uprev after I get some more miles on her and have my berks put on. (I waited like everyone told me until after break and had oil changed at 600 just to be safe.) |

I just put one on an 09 a few weeks ago. No strange sounds at all. Post up some pictures. Maybe someone can spot something?
This is the long tube version im assuming? |

My guess is that something is vibrating inside the ducts or manifold when you have air flowing. Possibly a small piece of plastic.

It shouldn't be anything inside the intake manifold I made sure there was nothing in the throttle body and washed my tubing out before reinstalling just to be sure there was no debris. It's driving me crazy it only happens in 1st typically below 4k rpms at a slow acceleration and then seems every gear anything above 5500 to 6500. On a positive note the berks are sounding good so far only 30 miles or so on them but so far so good. Now if I could just get this annoying *** noise to go away... As far as the pictures ya I'm not sure why they loaded that way? Photobucket is who they are all hosted through with the same camera and settings but sometimes it reduces the size. |

Problem Identified and fixed after being irritated as hell after a 2 hour drive. I shook the heck out of each tube and was hearing a clinking noise Again I thought it was the pipe hitting the throttle body until I noticed It was pulled too far our and wasn't moving enough. So I look under the engine brace shake it again and finally... I always leave the bracket screws facing up for easy access well the second bracket on each side was just high enough to hit the engine support bar. I moved both second brackets on each side seen in but rotated 90 degrees ish to clear the support bar. Tightened them reinstalled the Support bar.
Test drove and a lot smoother/quieter. On to the other annoying little noises now. One major one down about 20 small annoyances to go Thanks for the input guys I just wanted to post the outcome in case someone makes my mistake at some point! Last edited by NefariousZ34; 05-21-2015 at 02:22 AM. |
