Putting on Berks and Takeda during break in period bad idea?
15 Nismo (if it matters)
So I should be getting my berks high flow cats in tomorrow. I already had the takeda only 100 miles I put on it. I found out about this break in period thing.... So I just hit 500 tonight on purpose trying to run up the miles on the car I'm semi following the break in rules now I know them. I knew to take it somewhat easy on her but I wasn't staying below 4k I was up in the 5s and hit WOT maybe 10 times. I had 100+ miles on her by time I got her home last Friday just due to the drive anyway highway of course and no I wasn't going to slow I was late to work Question stands as posted is it a bad idea to have these berks high flow cats put on under the 1200 mile break in as well as my Takeda stage 2 attack CAI? I was also looking at an uprev tune but will probably wait until after break in period. Plus give me a month to save up some $$$$$ for the tune and dyno. Ideas on this? Please don't turn this into another break in thread I just want to know if this is too soon for aftermarket parts being thrown on my baby. |

Why change anything from stock before you give it enough miles to know if you have any factory defects?

Because I can always take them back off. Plus it's already defective imo not enough air flow from factory. Also suspension is a lot looser than previous nismo years. Last I haven't had the best luck with dealerships and warranty issues lol

They will be able to see you altered it. Just be patient. Give it a few thousand miles to see if you got a lemon. Then mod away.

This is a replacement for a lemon I don't think they will do it again. I did the intake on the last and it was on for 100 miles and I just put stock back on. Same should be with cats I'm assuming. I'm not so much worried about the car being bad. More just about having issues putting more flow so early on. The reason I want to do it now is because I put about 1k a year on my cars.. I work .1 miles away from my job and don't travel much.

It's your car. Your reasoning doesn't hold any water, but you're the one making the payments. You asked a question, but it seems like you already made up your mind and just want people to back up your decision.

Give it long enough to see if you have a motor that burns oil, or any other kind of defect. You'll know in the first few thousand miles. It's an assembly-line produced vehicle. Every so often one just isn't right. Don't give them the chance to weasel out of fixing a problem just yet.
Also, make sure your commute is long enough to get the oil up to temp or you'll be signing up for a whole different bag of problems.

I put those same parts on (and a whole bunch more) with 600 miles, no big deal. Some stuff, like the exhaust bolts, are a PITA but probably easier to do while the car is still "new".

It's no big deal if you get one of the 99.99% that don't have any problems. Most people would wait out the few thousand miles to rule out any factory defects before they give the dealer a way out of covering something under warranty.

Ya I couldn't see or feel them turned both tires each way and used a flashlight. With this method I assume they are not there. I hit 600 miles tonight still debating the cai is going on for sure they cant prove that and it doesn't void any warranties air filtration doesn't matter just as long as there is a filter that's what 4 services advisors told me including a mastertech it's not forced induction it's just another way to get air into the engine. Replacing back to stock is an hour and half job. It's mainly the cats I was worried about. I may wait or I might just put a couple hundred more miles on her before Tuesday.
Wednesday I'm taking a 300 mile drive and hopefully getting an oil change at a dealer up there I'm sorry but I don't trust leaving break in oil in past 1k whether Nissan says 3750 or not. Plus this will be a nice trip to see how the cal and high flow cats will react and it's 90% highway miles by time I'm back break in period will be gone anyway. If I have any problems I take it back to the shop have them put the old cats back on reset the ecu sell the berks and leave her alone until 3k+ is on her. I got them in today I can't have them sitting here looking all nice and pretty. *Actually berk sent them to me pretty dirty I was a little surprised. There is sand/debris inside the tubes after the cat |
