Stillen Supercharger help
Hey guys I'm having some problems that maybe some of you can help me out with. First, the check engine light is on. I had it looked at by a damn good performance shop down here in NC, the codes are reading fuel bank leans but they looked at it and determined that the tune is messed up and that's what is causing the light to come on. But its the uprev tune that came with the kit. I just retuned it last night with another tune the disc had on it after I installed my exhaust, but that didn't do anything for it. It idles like crap in park (it's an automatic). And put it and drive and let off the break, it'll start accelerating all the way to 3rd gear without touching the gas. Really annoying in traffic and parking lots. The car overall just seems like its really lacking in what i feel the performance should be. I called stillen several times, and they keep telling me to call back when the supercharger tech comes in. It's an overall frustrating situation and any advice is greatly appreciated.

This is easy. Sorry to bust your bubble but Stillen is all well to known for there crappy canned tunes. Get that car to a real tuner and have it personally tuned as it should be anyways.

I'm also confused about your comment that you loaded an additional tune that was on the disc? The UPrev disc doesn't actually have any tunes on it. The disc is simply the computer program that looks back to the online database and collects the tune. We only have one tune in the database per ROM. I'm concerned that there may be some confusion with this. Please call me at your convenience so we can get this sorted for you. My phone number is 800-576-2131 ext. 173 and my email is kmillen@stillen.com. |

Thanks for the reply. No complaints on the customer service; your supercharger tech there has helped me out with other concerns in the past. As for the tune, yeah I guess I worded it an a way that's a bit confusing. I meant that it has a few other settings for what modifications you have on your car, such as hfc, exhaust, etc. I hope that makes a bit more since. Of course I used the one meant for what I had. But like I said, I took it to several shops and they all said the kit is perfectly fine, it's jut the tune that's not right on it. I'm down in 29 palms Cali doing some training right now so I'll try to give you a call when I can get to somewhere quiet and get some more down time here. |

Thinking out loud: So the car runs great but you have an engine light on. No vacuum leaks from TB or intake, vacuum lines are on correctly but idles like crap and its an AT. I assume the shop has check the fuel rail, injector seats, coil pack connections. Any one of those will cause the ECU to compensate. Also ask them to test the connections on the TB wires they had to extend fronm the left side. See if there is any drop in volts. That might cause an issue with the drivers side VVEL. Next vacuum lines are all correct so it could be the Air Control Valve (not sure how to test it). Also if its only running ruff at idle, there may be a problem with the shield that is bolted under the front bumper to block direct air flow to the intake tubes. We found on a couple of cars that a breeze or burst of wind would cause the MAF's to read positive pressure. The computer goes nuts trying to compensate for it. What we did to fix it was to take a square piece of sheet metal and make a bigger shield that extended 4inches in front and behind the intake tube and made it long enough to wrap under the air filters. This fixed the issue. If the Tuner try's to get a baseline with out turning on the fan for the first run you wont see this issue. As soon as the fan is turned on he wont be able to get a consistent baseline. If he trys to tune it your numbers will be way off for each pull he does until the issue is fixed, we used cardboard to complete the tune then made a bigger shield at home that day. The MAF's are located to close the the air filters.. I hope this helps some, if not please let us know what your fix was. I'm interested. 29 Palms is great as long as you know your going home at the end. Stay safe brother.. .

Sorry for not replying sooner. I must have forgotten to subscribe to the thread.
If you've loaded a tune designed for headers high flows and catback and the exact same problem happens I would be very surprised if the issue was the tune. That would mean that two different tunes created the exact same drivability issues. Also, just for everyone's knowledge the way the Uprev software works is it basically downloads every available tune that we release. However it only allows you to see the tune that applies to your vehicle. This is selected by the vehicles ROM number. This ROM number is basically the cars operating system. So if you have ROM 123ABC you will only see the tunes available for ROM 123ABC...i'd have to check with engineering to be sure but there are something like 50 different ROMs for the VQ37 engines. We have at least one tune for every ROM we've seen. This tune is basically designed for an otherwise stock vehicle or a vehicle with a cat-back exhaust. In the situation you've described where there is an optional tune for other mods such as headers or high flows, this tune only exists because we have tuned a vehicle with these mods and this ROM and we've received good results. This means that if you had the option of selecting this tune that there is another vehicle with the same ROM and the same mods running well. Is the car in 29 palms with you or is it back in nc? Do you know the ROM number for the car? |
