Default Blowing my TT'ed motor and swapping a new one back in

So, I blew my twin turbo'ed motor at a track event.... 7500rpms and a cylinder disintegrated. the rod essentially slapped 2 massive windows on each side until the engine wound down. The shrapnel i found in the pan and all over the car was surreal.

I made some videos about my journey to swap motors and re-install the turbo kit ( along with some other mods ) in my garage. I still have a couple of installments, but im almost done. Ill add them in as I go.

Too bad man but happy you got it fixed.

What boost pressure level and fuel you ran?

I set the fuel pressure per tuner's request... Fuel pressure is a moving target since the fuel pressure regulator adjusts pressure via the vacuum pressure. Maintaining a strong fuel system to accommodate the need is always key.. Im running a Walbro450 with a fuel return and a pump speed controller. and sand alone wiring and relays to allow for adequate power. At the time of the incident, the tank was about 85% full, so a starvation condition is out of the realm of speculation

The system has been monitored, logged and video'ed from the gauge in the engine bay, and a ll is solid... so the fuel pressure is not a factor.

When I pulled the motor out, all of my vacuum lines were intact. In reality, you dont stare at all of your gauges when bulleting down a track. You can have warning lights go off, but you arent going to analyze anything until after you stop the car, since the goal is to get down the track safely. I wasnt logging at the time of the incident, so who knows....

As for boost, i hadnt modified the boost from the tune map.It was a fairly agressive tune and I was at redline when she went boom... I chalk it up to : something had to give, and 1 piston simply had enough.....

This car has been open track'ed, drag raced, top ended, run through mountain and canyon passes, autox etc. This car is no pleasure tub. It works for its space in the garage. Its not a daily driver, though i do drive it to work sometimes.

20/20, i prob could have dialed the boost back since I has that option, but I sent it like any self respecting Z owner would

Moving forward, im going to have the tuner fine tune this map to accomodate any variables in the engine swap, to get me going, but, basically the same tune.. Im going to dial back the car in the interum though until I can put the $$$ to build the motor. After that, cleared for take off with motor to spare...

Just an update:

ive got most of the car done, just need to put the radiator housing back and finish up.. i took a break ( sometimes you need to step back)

But, im back at it tonight... Some time this week, i should be ready to hit the start button.

After that much work, im a bit anxious hoping that i got the inaccessible parts torqued down right and i didn't miss anything... leaks are also a concern as always,

Ill drop some videos once the nose is back on.

Good to hear you are progressing. But how much PSI did you run? Im asking because i see a fair lot of boosted engines blowing up lately, including my own. Trying to understand the limits a bit better.

I ran mine hard (drag racing) for 3 years at 15-16psi and it never failed.
