Aftermarket Wideband on LTH
Friends, I am about to change out my stock manifolds/Z1 test pipes for Fast Intentions Long Tubes. I have a Prosport wideband connected to one of the test pipe additional bungs, but I will lose this when I install the long tubes.
Tuner recommends against tapping the signal wire from an OEM O2 sensor since it may mess up the signal relied on for proper AFRs. Has/is anyone boosted and run in to this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Thanks!! |

From my admittedly limited research on this, you may be able to get away with only removing a very small area of the coating in order to drill through and weld a bung in place. I was reading about it when I thought that I might have to do that for my BP kit, but discovered that blessedly, it comes with piping already tapped and with a bung in place.

I have Motordyne LTH. Coated with Swain Tech White lightning. But these headers come with small interchangeable pipes at the end. It’s that pipe that I had a bung welded on to. I also opted not to coat those pipes. However, my bung is just inches away from where the Motordyne exhaust starts. How much difference does a few inches make, especially when this sensor is only used for display purposes on your gauge?

You could of had FI install the bungs for you. I ordered an extra bung in each collector when I ordered my LTH's.

The Long Tubes are a secondhand purchase, otherwise I definitely would have had the extra bung put in.
The option of having an exhaust shop here put one in is looking like the most viable option. The display is important to me in case something happens and I lean out, I can let off the throttle and maybe save some pain. I appreciate the input! |

These are your headers. It doesn’t look like putting a bung on the exhaust, red circle, is going to make any difference in reading for a gauge. Also, your tuner should have a fail safe for AFR! I don’t think you’re going to be able to rely on looking at, reading, and stopping a lean condition. At your power levels, it’s enough to just keep an eye out in front of the car and keeping it pointing in the right direction.

I agree with this, and didn't even bother putting in an AFR myself.

Fair statements haha. Maybe I'll just make it a dummy meter to keep the extra 15 horsepower hahaha.
But really, I like to see if the car is doing weird things. There was a time when my AFRs went all kind of wonky on me... Nothing crazy lean, but 16's under gentle acceleration, 18's at idle, etc. The more readable data I can have when something happens (to a reasonable extent), the better I feel I could diagnose a potential issue or match tangible data to the intangible feelings to help an expert with diagnostics. |
