Default Ported intakes

I have been looking at the ported intakes from Z1 and Soho .. I noticed Z1 states that they recommend using their ported upper intake but Soho only has info with their lower .... the gains on a boosted car was ~30 ish after 5k rpm from Soho lower only ... is their any difference on the porting of the lower manifold from Z1 to Soho .. would the gains be about the same ... woukd Z1 need their upper yo match Soho or would the upper increase either Z1 or Soho ....... most info I find is on a N/A 370z , I’m sure some boosted guys have tried these out

Most of the boosted guys want the plastic intake to live so they leave them alone. That is why SOHO only offers the lower I would assume. SOHO has a metal upper now for guys pushing larger boost pressure.

Ohh ok that’s the info I was looking for ... would the gains be about the same on Z1 vs soho lower intakes ... I would assume that porting it would be straight forward

I have a ported lower that was done by another shop and it made more power on the low end. I am on stock block so Seb stopped at 560 ft lbs tq and 610 whp. He said there was more there but did not want to push it.

I’m at 612/511 was thinking the lower ported would get me around 640/540 ish and that would be my last power mod .... from looking at Soho manifold it was looking like 30-40 increase after 5k rpm

I think that is doable. I also use Ignite e90 which also aid in power gains as well. I know SoHo ported lower manifold provides consistent gains. I don't have any reason for doubting that Z1 wouldn't do the same. My motor is kind of freak in that it makes better tq than hp.

Because I'm planning on going FI very soon, I took a look at SOHO's page for their ported lower, and their dyno charts. The significant portion of the gains are not until 6500K+ (although they do say that the twin turbo test vehicle developed gains 4000K+). From a practical standpoint, the gains are so minimal given the horsepower you're already generating (making traction a very real issue), I'm not sure the cost justifies the mod.

If you're not going to generate 25-or-so rear wheel horsepower until the point you're ready to shift into the next gear, it really doesn't have much value. How much time is that...a quarter-second? It would be a completely different story if it developed low-end torque.

In the end, only you can evaluate its worth, and much of it relates on how you plan on driving your car. 1/4-mile? Track? Street?

Just my two cents...

I use 100% methanol injection ... e85 isn’t something I want to have for a daily driven car and have to locate it everywhere I go

The gain for N/A are around the 6k and above turbo application start getting it earlier around 5k mark ... and for 30+ hp/tq for the price isn’t bad ... and for driving on the street yea traction issues appear long before that ... my intent would be for the 1/4 mile track with MT tires ... no need to leave easy hp/tq on the table
