turbo kit for 370z
so I wanted it install air intakes and then get manifolds for my 370z and later on get a turbo kit, but i saw the greddy kit has intakes already and also need headers, so my question was if i get an air intake and then get a turbo kit would i be able to use it rather than the one the kit comes with?
i also was hoping you guys could explain what dump pipes and external wastegates are and why they are needed thanks |

As for the pieces that the kits are made up of: read up on the different kits (FI, AAM, BP, VSR, etc.) and then use google/youtube/forums/questions to increase your knowledge. Forced induction isn't something you want to go into clueless as that's the best way to destroy your motor and/or bank account. |

^ Agreed. ^
Especially the part about doing your research. Search around for forum threads there are many great ones. Maybe start here (it should cover some of the basic knowledge you need to learn about): 370z Forced Induction for Noobs... What ghost suggested is one of the best ways to do it. I also like typing something like this into google search ‘forced induction site:the370z.com’ to yield specifically the370z forum results. Then obviously change the forced induction to other keywords and/or questions that you have to see if you can threads that already include whatever information you are looking for. As for personal experience: I went full bolt on (intakes, exhaust, hfc, intake manifold, etc) and then moved on my turbo build... and regretted paying for all those parts, instillation, and tuning when we ripped them all off and started over with the turbo kit. Moral I guess is DECIDE what you want to do with your car and then work accordingly towards that goal. My final susgestion is to see if you can find a REPUTABLE shop in your area that has done 370z builds and see if they will chat with you. I’m sure they will be willing to give you some time and this may also get you a lot of insight on the subject.

In very short time I will be bringing a CARB approved twin turbo kit to this platform. Emissions testing of the kit has already been completed - all that remains is documentation and some formalities until the EO# is issued.

You better pray they are not doing a Japanese inspection on you. If you don't know what that is that is when the let vegetables and fruit sit on the dock for inspection. It sits so long that it goes bad and does not need inspection anymore.

I haven't started that part of the process, we are dealing with production issues so the actual application process can't begin until that is resolved and appropriate documentation such as installation manuals are submitted to have the CARB EO issued. The required state/federal testing has been completed and doesn't expire.

I would say just go ahead and do all the N/A bolt-ons right now and enjoy the Z.
Looks like you still have quite a bit to learn about force induction, which is ok so don't rush into it. Unfortunately there's tons of people that say they are planning on going the turbo/supercharger route but they never get there because of the $$ investment. |
