Depends on if you have an oil cooler or not. Steady cruise (70-80) I would see 190-200 with out oil cooler and 180-190 with oil cooler (I use a thermostatic plate).
Boosted runs without oil cooler would be foolish, but with oil cooler and ambient temps of around 90 I would see 200-210. That is with a 25 row cooler, 0-40w Mobile One and 8psi of boost and a third gear pull. YMMV

I'm in Florida and the temp showed 101 on the car ambient gauge. I went into boost once today and the oil temp got up to 200 at 9psi and 25 row cooler. When it's cooler out I might get it to 190 or so.

i have a 25 row cooler and my car is always 200-220. I was told by the shop that did my car that this temp was normal. I will have to relocate my oil cooler

What Is The Optimum Engine Oil Temperature? - Hot Rod Network
I'm not boosted and have no additional cooling. So, how Nissan designed it. City driving I hit 220 and it doesn't go any higher. Seems to agree with the article. 212 seems to be a popular temp (boiling point for water) but as article mentions, there are other impurities that should be burned off. I'm not an oil guy, but I don't see any articles saying 200 and below is a good thing. |

Mine will hit 200+ during city driving but the OP question was cruise and boost.
Yes, the oil needs to get to ~200 to burn off any moisture but it doesn't need to stay there. Oh no! Not another oil thread....... Sorry, I got sucked into this one......

Does anyone know where in the flow the Z gets its oil temp reading? Big difference from engine exit to return after the cooler.

Thanks! Good to know.
So with that bit of info, the oil going to the oil cooler is hotter than we are seeing with the gauge. Since going boosted, I have noticed my outside air temp reads about 2-3 degrees hotter than it used to during normal driving (not under boost). Not sure if that is related to the SC install or the oil cooler install. Could be either but I'm thinking that the oil cooler has a bigger effect on the OAT reading.

My temp sensor is located in the oil pan drain plug of the oil pan. Measuring the temp after the cooler only tells you how well your cooler works. The oil coming off the engine is what tells the story and all that goes into the pan for recirc to the cooler. I'd poop bricks if I got a post cooler 220 knowing that the already hot oil is about to be tossed into a friction lab.

Since going boost I have had two oil coolers. The first 34 row and now a 72 row. I either run 0-40 or 0-50 oil. Highway driving in temps above 110 see cruising temps of 220. Anything below see less. Temp above 120 my oil temp may reach 135 in traffic but fall once cruising.
My 72 row was installed a couple of months ago and temp when cruising are always about 210 plus 110. I beat the crap out of the car to test it one afternoon when the temp was 117 and she never got more than 240. You can't really get oil temps to a critical range on the highway even doing short boosted runs. You just need to be sure your tune is good so other things don't go boom. Water temperature is more of a concern as you will hit limp mode before your oil temp hits critical mass. So to come full circle anything between 180 and 220 ain't a big deal!
