Boost/Heat/O2 Sensors
With the added heat of FI the stock wideband sensors are no longer deemed to be entirely reliable. Fair enough, I get it. Aftermarket AFR gauges and sensors can be pretty big bucks, I certainly get that too. Where my head is st though is wouldn't it be feasible to simple replace the OEM sensors to higher quality ones that are less prone to failure under higher temp conditions? Or am I just pipe-dreaming here.. we already get AFR readings via software could we not just ensure those readings remain accurate with better quality sensors?

most aftermarket widebands are a 5-wire sensor, the Z comes with a 4-wire... at least mine did.
I am no o2 sensor connoisseur, but I am under impression that the general principle of how a 4-wire wideband versus 5-wire wideband function is very different, and that you could not substitute one with the other. Sensors also fluctuate in their signal output calibration, which is important to be matched with the tables in the ECU. Im sure what you want to do can be done, but if time is money, an aftermarket wideband will certainly be cheaper for the first guy that has to figure this out.

Solid response. The key would be an Ecutek map for the new sensor, though wiring would still be an impediment. In any case I won't be the guy that solves it.
I'll bite the bullet and invest in Zeitronix. Can I put that in the rearmost bung or should it be further behind that in a new location. Would be great if that could be linked with Ecutek so it doesn't require dual logs but it is what it is. I won't be the guy to solve that one either. |
