Turbo with downpipes or ART pipes
Hello everyone, It's me again.
I'm in the process of slowly doing supporting mods for a TT setup, and was wondering if it's worth buying ART Pipes as a supporting mod for TT or to just use custom 3" downpipes? I'm doing the fueling and exhaust first, which means it will probably take me until next winter to install the turbos. I was debating installing ART Pipes for this summer as i track the car, so it helps a little with performance but is it a bottleneck with a turbo setup? |

You will not need test pipes of any any kind with a twin turbo set up. A 3" down pipe will provide the best flowing setup when matched with a 3" exhaust.

This is not strictly correct. My Gamma V3 kit puts the flanges off the turbos in the factory header locations, so you do use test pipes (or cats). I think the previous GTM kits did the same as well, but do not know for sure.

Right on, you would know better than I about Gamma lol! Regardless, bigger is better...3" down pipes and exhaust are the way to go...less back pressure and bottle necking!

I ran ART pipes briefly on my old G37 with TT. Simply switching to a 3" downpipe netted me nearly 50 whp. The ART is only a 2 1/4 at the smallest point. Could tell a big difference in coming to an idle as well, ART made it judder a little.

Save your money as hard as that sounds, it is. I would wait on the 3" exhaust also. FI catback will work if you need some sound and then you can sell it if you upgrade to 3" without too much trouble.

Exactly. Don't waste time with test pipes or any other mods until you buy your turbo kit. A 3" exhaust isn't a good choice for a NA car, so hold off until you're putting the kit on. Not to mention that it probably won't mate up with normal diameter test pipes. If it does, it's not a true 3" exhaust.
