What will happen if you overboost for short moment?

Howdy, I'm fiddling with my Turbosmart Street EBC and it state to set the, "Over Boost" 3lbs-4lbs over your max boost psi. In my case, that is 12lbs or so.

Default What will happen if you overboost for short moment?

Howdy, I'm fiddling with my Turbosmart Street EBC and it state to set the, "Over Boost" 3lbs-4lbs over your max boost psi. In my case, that is 12lbs or so. According to the manuel, that is 14 psi. The EBC will cut boost in 1/2 (7.5lbs) if it ever spikes to 15lbs of boost as a safety. After it reads a 7.5 lbs of boost, it will resume all function like normal.

What would happen if you happen to spike to a boost level higher than what you have you car tuned to for a very short time? Or should I ask what are the chances of something going wrong if I happen to hit this safety of 15 psi.

Additional info:
-BP turbo kit
-tuned in cooler weather like 65* with some humidity
-506hp/435tq at around 12 psi
-stock engine

I overboosted with that kit once all the way to 19.5 psi on the dyno. Nothing happened then. But 3 months later I grenaded at 10psi around 7500rpms.

It really just depends on what your engine can handle. On a stock block tuned for 12lbs and you over boosted to say 15lbs once for a second, I wouldn't worry. But if you did it more than a few times it adds up and won't end well.

What's causing your over boosting ?

I use mine a bit different from the manual,

I'm tuned for 13lbs but actually have my target boost set at 12 lbs and over boost shutoff set at 12.9 right now because I'm at 90% duty cycle on my injectors at 13 (750cc).

I'd stay away from it. What, it's not fast enough at 12psi?

I'm not trying to over boost the car. The manual says to set it 3 to 4 psi higher than target psi. Like J, I want to boost lower than my tuned psi which is 11.5 (I'm tuned for 12 or so) to be safe. But if I go buy the manual, I should set the overboost to 11.5+3 = 14.5 lbs.. This is why I'm asking.. I think i will just set the overboost to 11.8 and set the EBC to 10.5 lbs just to be safe. I plan to beat on her every weekend or so till I make good times slips.. lol..

So the answer is, Don't listen to the manual. Don't boost more then the tune.
