This years build is complete- but what tires to run??
hey there everyone here's my 2009 auto with full bolt ons and a nitrous express kit plus all the proper accessories, this was on a mustang dyno the corrected numbers are 399whp and 422lbft of torque on 100 shot jetting needless to say I'm pleased. I do want to know what tires to run on the rear, ive got 18 by 9.5" rims and am dropped on tein s techs. Im dragging against a stock 2013 boss mustang 5.0 at the Lebanon valley dragway here in new York and hes running drag radials. I was wondering what you guys with big power are running SUGGESTIONS PLEASE, I was thinking of 275/40/18 nitto 555's or nto5's........ |

The NT05R is a decent tire and might do the trick.
If you really want to win, get your car aligned and take all the camber out of the back. It cambers a lot more when the suspension compresses, so you want to be as close to zero as you are willing to go. If you wanted to win at any cost, you would even put the camber a hair positive so that it zeros out when you launch. But that will look dumb so you will have to drive straight to the alignment shop to set it back after the race LOL. I am no tire expert, but heres my experience: these R compound street tires seem like they lose a lot of their stickiness after several heat cycles. I will put them on and the car hooks up decent for a 7-10 days and then it starts falling off and then 2-3 weeks later its barely any better than a normal tire. Maybe something else is going on, but I think it has something to do with heat cycles on the tires. So next time I get some R compound street tires, I am only going to use them for racing, and not daily drive on them. Also, dont be afraid to put the tire pressure down low. Just for a drag race, you will find it to hook up better below 20psi. Obviously fill back up soon after the race and dont take turns fast. Do several practice runs exactly how you will race. Even on a dedicated drag tire, I wasted several passes at the strip not hooking up until I finally started trying the pressure down much lower. I think I was like 18psi IIRC before I finally got a good 60' that killed my clutch. |

Im running MT's street comp. 305/20/35 with 25mm spacers and 0 camber.
They are absolute death traps under 40F. 50-60 they are ok and over 70F they refuse to let go in 2nd with 500whp/450tq. For the cost they can't be beat with anything ive been on.

They might not last long due to price point, but my BFG KDW Gforce only lasted me 7K and they were 3X more expensive with less grip.
Mucha, I see your in a cold state. Buy winter tires or never drive your car in freezing temps. I literally was sideways after hitting boost in 5th gear on the interstate. Scary as fook!!

Nt05r and the et streets are the only two tires that will get you anywhere. I was on a 190 shot on rs3's and I could only spray in 2nd and I would still light them up. You need a drag radial that's for sure

Keep in mind I have not tracked these tires yet. For the little amount of getting sideways in the city they are gripping nicely. In a straight line they dig pretty hard.
