Short Shifter on a 370Z Sport (with rev match)
Hey guys,
Just a quick question I did a search on this and didn't find anything, if it is out there and I didn't look hard enough could someone just post up the link? Anyways I have a 2014 sport model 370Z and just looking to get a short shifter, I was told putting a short shifter on a car with rev match could mess with the syncros and hurt more than help the car. I was wondering your opinions on this and also is it a big project (more than 2 hours?) I know i'm a noob here but I appreciate any help Thanks Tim |

A short shifter speeds up the shift action by changing the ratio between the length of movement of your hand and the movement required by shifter forks so that your hand has to move less distance to get the shifter forks to move the gears.
Moving your hand at the same speed implies the top of the shifter moves thru a shorter arc to move the forks the required distance and therefore the shifter forks move faster. This puts more pressure on the syncro's rings which IMHO opinion are weak to start with, so YES, a short-shifter will put more pressure (cause faster wear) on syncro rings that the OEM shifter. Rev-match "might" be affected but we are talking 50-100 milli-seconds (maybe) - could be significant, but someone with a shitfer can best comment. PS - typo is deliberate .... |

I was considering a short shifter too. I put one on my RX8 and I would have to say it was one of the best mods I did. I don't see where it would bother the rev match because the rev match has to do with what rpm's your at and it matches when you depress the clutch. All the short shifter does is shorten your throw about 20%.

I have the TWM short shifter. No problems in 3 years. Revmatch doesn't know the differance. The one thing that will kill syncro's is riding around with your hand on the shifter all the time. The weight of your hand is enough pressure to put pressure on the syncro's.
