Default broken mirror help?

so, i was in a hurry today and parked my Z in a parking lot that had alot of cars and forgot to push thw side mirrors in. I came back 2 hours later and found my passenger side mirror is broken. the guy/lady left the insurance number and everything on my windshield. I assume he hit my mirror with hes or something. anyways what do i tell the car shop..? do i need a new mirror or just the cover. ilve uploaded the pictures. the bottom black part is completely cracked and the cover is totally outta place. adjusting the mirror and everything still works. what do i tell the shop?

I would just call her/his insurance and file a claim.

And yes the mirror would need to be replaced.

Call the insurance number they left immediately. You want to know right away whether it's genuine. After you figure out who's paying for the repairs, then you can talk to a shop. All you need to tell them is to fix it. A good shop should have no trouble getting it back to normal.

The numbers/Insurances are real. I called the number on the paper before calling the Insurances. He said he would like to do it without getting insurance company involved. I agreed.. he said he loves cars blah blah blah and said thats the only reason he left the number there for me.. - -; anyways where can i find the oem parts? I dont see it on the nissan web and whats a avg. cost (complete install+labor+part) anyone knows? Thanks!

At least he's willing to take the responsibility unlike the vast majority who just leaves the scene. Good for that guy. And GL with the repair!

This should take care of you. Buy it yourself and get a shop to install it. Get a quote from multiple shops to get a fair price. Or just pick the shop you want and use their price.

This could turn into a big mess in a hurry. Without some kind of report to police or insurance it might be very difficult to hold him to his promise to pay. Don't commit yourself to expensive repairs if you can't afford to pay for them yourself if he backs out.

Courtesy Parts that has been mentioned would be a good place to find out if the mirror is one piece or if you can get just the housing. It will give you a good idea of what the cost will be.

I'd check Courtesy to get an idea of what parts are needed and then go to your favorite body shop and discuss cost with them. Just so you have a better idea of what is involved in the repairs, so you can tell if the body shop is blowing smoke up your a**, I'd also check the FSM and see if it gives any info on what might be involved to R&R the mirror.

R&Ring the mirror should be pretty straight forward. Take the door panel off and I'm betting it's a couple of fasteners and a cannon plug for the electrics.

I mentioned courtesy but there's enough wrecked Zs by now and a few I'm sure that have been stolen and stripped so if the dude backs out try ebay or junkyard.

yah, those things are real easy to replace. i'd just buy the part, invoice the insurance people. takes no more than 10-15min to do the swap.
do the quick window reset after the work.

GL with the repairs.
