Default Guys with vented aftermarket hoods... Water/Rain

One of the things I like about these cars is the fact the engine compartment is nicely protected from the elements with the underside shield etc. I'm looking at the VIS AMS hood and was wondering with regards to rain, etc... Besides garaging the car, anyway to keep the engine bay still looking nice, my car sits mostly outside and does get exposed to the elements.

A good car cover will alway help against the elements. Also when you are cleaning the car, make sure to take a little more time and give the engine compartment a good wipe down.

I have the exact same hood, besides the occasional leaves near the windshield it stays pretty clean other than dust. I use a Meguiars cleaner which is a spray on detailer/wax to clean the engine bay. Spray and wipe and its shiny again.

I know some manufacturers have the rain guards that come with the hood. Does the VIS AMS hood come with rain guards?

Necrobump!

I want to take this a step further... is there any risk to the electronics or engine with a vented hood? I live in Seattle and, while the Z is not my daily driver, getting rained on is a matter of when and not if.

Thanks for any inputs!

While I wouldn't take a high-pressure sprayer to the engine compartment, the electronics are sealed against rain and splash. Air intakes are beside the radiator, so a vented hood will not affect them.

I have the Seibon BD hood and it has been fine. The motor has never had any issues. Only thing I've noticed is that sand gets in the engine bay but its nothing to hard to clean.

I use a pressure washer to foam/rinse the car to no ill effect. I try not to spray directly into the vents though. Seibon TS style hood. Have to clean off the polished intake tubes though, lots of water spots if you don't.

I've driven my car in the rain and it seems to be fine. I have no fender liners and never put the rain guards in my Varis hood. No problems yet LOL.
