Default Windshield?!?!?

So I have noticed that my windshield has like, ripples or waves on it. I just got the car not too long ago and have been away from home for several months and just noticed it. And it's only on the bottom half of the windshield, and sort of makes things blurry. I thought it could be old wax or something, but windex wont even bring it out, just makes it super clean and therefore more noticeable. Im not sure if this is a common thing or if anybody has heard of it, or even what it is. But I don't like it...

Minato is an unknown quantity at this point

Is it an OEM windshield? Some cheap aftermarket windshields have poor QC and have imperfections including slight waviness. Of course, it could just be that that Central Valley sun melted it :P

It had one owner before me, a 2011 sport touring, the carfax didn't have anything on it other than the one or two scheduled maintenance trips here in town, and only 2k miles on it when I bought it. Everything is in perfect shape, so I understand the chance of it being an aftermarket windshield, but I highly doubt that it is. And if it is, they did an absolutely perfect job on the swap.

The affected area has gotten larger than it was at first and slightly more noticeable. Mentioned something about melting and a QC, also the glass is the oem Nissan windshield. So could something melting due to the heat out here actually be a possibility?

Could be, especially in NM. Go to your dealer, should be covered under warranty

I doubt that ambient temperatures, even in the hottest places in the US, are great enough to do anything to the glass itself - especially over such a short period of time. However, it could affect any coating that may be on the glass.

Without seeing the damage, my guess is that it's something on the glass (eg, wax, pollution, vandalism) or some chemical has attacked the coating on the glass.

But I'm just guessing. Take it to someone that knows auto glass and get their opinion.

I was thinking maybe the plastic in the center got affected, lol
Glass isn't melting anytime soon

I don't think it would be getting hot enough to melt the - what is that layer of "plastic" laminated between the glass called?

Even if it did melt, it's between two layers of glass. It could change the refractive index of the windshield but shouldn't cause ripples.

Pics would be nice but I'm guessing it won't show up unless a very good camera is used with perfect lighting.

Edit: If the light is just right, I can see a "blurry crosshatch" on/in the side window that I assume is caused by the tint and/or UV blocker. I haven't noticed it on the windshield but assume it is the same way. This may be what the OP is seeing.

Yeah, I'm not sure, more than likely the glass was always wavy and it was just noticed or something and warranty will cover it
