When I had my Civic, I bought a flip key housing for it and painted it white I'm assuming it would be much easier with the 370z key since there's no keyblade. Anyone ever done anything similar?

How would you charge the key fob if you change the housing?
I've see people wrap theirs in vinyl and even paint it.

I wanted to change the shape of the housing, so maybe get a new housing for it? Plugging it into the keyhole thing doesn't charge it, if the battery runs out you just get a new battery no?
Idk, it's just one of those things that you think about when you have nothing else left to mod haha, or to spice things up a bit

Touché, I remember reading something in the owners manual about having to insert the key into space provided. Here's what I found. See number 3. All the same, I wouldn't change the housing.

Micheal Jackson denied touching little boys so this statement is invalid.

I had always just thought that was where the sensor was located so putting the key there brought it close enough to be read one low battery. Has anyone done this and gone from low battery to not needing to put the key in the hole after?

I have the "insert key" indicator pop up before and had to insert. Started up right after that.

There's been a couple times that I needed to insert it to start the car, and it was fine for a good while afterwards. So idk why exactly it needed the key inserted but it did.
