Default gauge light issues -

all of the relevant gauges/ from the far left window that has the temperature, mph gauge, oil, battery, clock....everything.........sometimes the default orange light on all of them will go dim at the same time.................then randomly it all goes bright again......

i can never pin it to a time of day(not sure if there are intelligent controls) for it to go automatically dark or brighter based ontime of day...

Anyone ever hear of any electrical issues, or lighting issues in 370 related to the described issues?

It dims if you have lights set to auto and brightness changes when lights turn on/off

If the headlight switch is set to "auto" and you encounter sun vs heavy cloud or shade while driving; the sensor could be turning the headlights on and off and by design, the gauge lights from bright (headlights off) to dim (headlights on).

i suppose turn the headlight stalk to OFF and drive around the same area a few times to see if the car repeats itself.

Yup, most likely it's the auto headlight that's causing it.

I don't think it is isolated,b/c mine does the same thing and I don't use the auto on the combination switch.

The optical sensor is located on the right end of the right windshield defogger vent. In a bright environment (sunshine), turn Auto on and cover the sensor. It may take a few seconds for the headlights to come on and the dash lights to dim. If you problem is in synch with unblocking/blocking the sensor, there ya go.

Edit: See page EXL-163 of 2009 FSM for drawing of physical location.
