Unhappy Gauge Needle stuck

Hey guys

So, I took my tach/speedometer gauges apart to look at the leds as I want to change them out soon. I got curious and pulled the needles off as I also pulled everything behind them off. However, once I reinstalled and adjusted everything, the tach needle started acting weird. It has slowly gone up, but not down, and has now rested above 9k. The speedometer gauge appears to be working properly as well.

I'm curious what can be done, outside going to the dealership or a body shop, to fix the tach to work properly. I've checked as well and the needle is not getting stuck.

Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated, as always

Thanks!

Sounds like you are buying a new Tach from Nissan. Not sure what you did.

Make sure the pointer is not loose on the shaft and that you didn't knock loose any if the wiring/contacts.

If that's not the problem, I'm afraid Spooler is right.

I haven't taken it back apart since this happened, so I'm hoping it's just the needle.

I can say if it is the gauge itself, I'll be living with it. I refuse the pay the crazy price nissan wants for any part. (I guess a totaled Z would work too)

I've taken mine apart before and removed the needles. I marked exactly where the needles were pointing prior to removing them and then I made sure that they were reinstalled in the same position. I also found that you can push them back on too far and they'll drag.

I'm hoping that's all it is. I know I put them on in the same position as they were removed, but I'm now wondering if I did what you said and put them on too tight. Will check that this weekend.

Thanks!

Just try prying them up a little bit. That will keep the needle from bottoming out against the gauge face.
