Halo Lights came with car but high beams don't work?

Hey everyone! When I bought my Z from the dealership a few months back, it came with the halo mod preinstalled. I don't know anything about them but the high beams don't work. Is this normal when the halo's are installed? I will be getting Morimoto's soon and will be taking these out and hope to sell them. I'm hoping none of the wiring was messed with so the Morimoto's can easily plug in so if anyone can chime in on what to look out for or how to check on the high beams that would be awesome. Thanks all!

I would check the headlight bulb and ballast they could possibly be bad. Also check all your connections going to the lamp. It may be loose or even a corroded wire. Fix this issue before you get the Morimoto's.

The high beam function is not intuitive (at least not to me). The lamp is on high all the time and a shutter is placed in front of the lamp for low beam mode. To get high beams, a solenoid moves the shutter out from in front of the lamp. Better description, wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, etc are in the FSM (link in sig).

My SWAG is that prev owner messed up the wiring to the high-beam solenoids.

What's a ballast. I'm not familiar in this territory of electrical stuff. I'm hoping it's just an easy replacement for the morimoto headlights since it's plug and play. I don't think the previous owner bothered with the bluetooth part and just had the halos plugged in where I'm guessing he made it so high beams weren't connected anymore?

How did the dealer get away with selling you a car where the headlights don't function properly?

Idk. it came modified and I never bothered to check the high beams. Just wanted to check if high beams were still in there once I get my morimotos this week so I can sell these for cheap

A ballast is essential in HID lighting technology because it provides the voltage to start the bulb and it also helps in maintaining an adequate flow of electrical current to the bulb. Quality ballast acts as DC to AC converter so that you can use the normal DC power source in the car to light the bulbs efficiently. If you are forced to reset your ballast repeatedly,then that could be a sign of a bad HID or LED bulb. HID ballasts also serve as DC to AC converters. When inspecting it for potential issues, any burn marks, leaking oil, or swollen casing are indicators of failure. In most cases ballast failure occurs as a results of the surrounding environment. Heat and moisture are great enemies to your HID ballast. When it is too cold or too hot the ballast can burn out or fail to start headlights. A combination of heat and constant condensation can also cause severe corrosion over time. You can avoid this problem by removing and cleaning the various parts of your ballast casing and electrical board. However, you need to be cautious and sure of what you are doing to avoid causing more problems. A slight mistake and you will be purchasing and installing a new ballast. If the OP can not properly diagnose this issue take your Z to a shop or preferably a shop that specializes or has knowledge of vehicle electrical that you trust.

I suspect the high beam connector hasn't been plugged back into the projector. It's an absolute pain in the arse to connect because it's inside the light casing. It took me 5 minutes to plug it back in with the light fully disassembled. You could get to in through the wheel well and from the back of the light but you will probably need a torch. It's a tiny 2 or 3 pin cable that starts and ends inside the light just under the projector.
