Z1 Solid Aluminum Trans mount - Noise Abatement Tip
How many of you out there have swapped out your factory sprung trans mount. Did you buy the Poly bushed variety or the Solid Aluminum variety? Well I picked up the Z1 Solid Aluminum one. It works great and is a quick install. 20 Minutes start to finish. Well the other thing you get is all of the noise that a solid mount can transmit to the body of the car. I resolved never to look back and elected to find a solution to damping this noise. I thought that the the polyurethane bushings on the other variety of trans mount and it gave me an idea. What if I got a sheet of silicone rubber and cut small spacers in the shape of the trans mount attachment points. This was a great idea. The smallest sheet of silicone rubber I could get was 1/8" x 12" x 12" on Amazon for about $14.
Well today I spent an hour or less removing the trans mount cross member and added the small silicon cutout shapes. I used the factory cross member to trace small spacer shapes and cut small holes in them to create the four spacer pieces. I added the spacers to the Z1 Aluminum trans mount and the Factory Cross member where they bolt to each other and the car body. The results are a welcome reduction in overall car vibrations and noise transmission through the Z1 Solid Trans mount. You still get all of the benefits of a solid trans mount and a whole lot less noise. The gear whine is muted but welcome. I am glad I did not remove the Z1 Solid Aluminum Trans mount. It really adds to the rigidity you are looking for but with the 4 small silicone spacers the noise is greatly reduced. If you are a Z owner that has added the Z1 solid trans mount you might consider spending a bit of time and add 4 silicon spacer pieces to quiet the noise. I'm glad that I did.

Thanks for the insight man. I could use pictures because I'm dense, but the idea is plenty. Thank you, will be trying this when it comes time to replace those bushings.
