Brake cleaner will eat anything ... including paint so watch out!

Did you read the link? It recommends that you remove the light first. I wouldn't risk my paint.

It's usually a bad idea to use brake cleaner on anything but brake pads and bare metal. As per JARblue, it will ruin paint. It will also attack many plastics.
First thing I'd try is soaking in hot water. If that didn't work, I'd try GooGone. If that didn't work, I'd contact the manufacturer and see if they had any tips.

I wouldn't use acetone... it will eat the plastic lens. Brake cleaner doesn't seem to be as aggressive on the lenses. But I wouldn't be surprised if it does eat them a little.

I used it on the third brake light, not the tail lights and it had no effect on the plastic at all. Not sure if they're made of a different plastic. But, like I mentioned, the nightshade wasn't fully cured so it wiped off really easy. May have been different if I had to use a lot of acetone.

So I succeeded in taking it off fully without using any chemicals that could eat up the lens, I used the meguiars headlight restoration kit (heavy duty) it took me 3 hours but the tailights are shinier than before
