Windshield replacement question?
So I was driving behind and to the side of a 18 wheeler about 4-5 cars back (I don’t tailgate) and in the left lane (he was in right) , something either got picked up or came off truck and hit windshield. Exhaust and music couldn’t even drown this noise out. Smacked. Hard. And I instantly pulled over thinking my newly installed NISMO bumper was damaged and furiated. Come to find out, not hood or bumper. But windshield. Chip about 1/2” and crack coming off of it about 6-8” and on edge (so no repair)
So I called a few local glass places and none of them offered OEM windshields and said dealer must install or contract out a shop to do it. Not sure why. Maybe I called the few that just don’t have contracts to get OEM Nissan Glass. But said they carried XYG Glass. Upon review (as I am OCD on repairs, people working on my vehicle since I’m a DIY’er) this is my first broken windshield. I looked at reviews on XYG and apparently they were owned by PPG (great reviews) but XYG is a Chinese company that bought out PPG and now have horrible reviews (wavy in Glass, thinner so louder at highway speeds, noises from fitment not being good, chips and cracks easier, vin cut out doesn’t line up, fogs up more often and doesn’t defrost etc etc) So is there any good alternative aftermarket glass companies that anyone has good reviews about. I’m scared away from XYG and don’t want to pay $900 + at dealership for replacement. So anyone got advise? |

You might want to check with your insurance company. At least here in Ohio, depending on what type of coverage you have, your insurance provider may offer free windshield replacement with no deductible.

I was able to buy the OEM Nissan glass from a dealer and had Safelite install it at one of their shops. My insurance company, Progressive, covered the cost minus $75. Granted, I had to ask to speak to some supervisors when I called to make a claim.

Side note : I had a guy on the 370z Facebook page that said his is replaced with XYG and is just fine. My windshield is tinted 30% anyways so I doubt I’d notice the tiny imperfections , but I don’t want waviness in the glass, water leaks, air whistles on interstate or fogging issues is all. |

I had the windshield replaced for slightly less than $300. by a local glass shop using Pilkington glass. It turned out fine. The dealer OEM quote was over a $1000.

In SC, w/full coverage...no deductable on glass; lotta parts have to be removed & they billed insurance around 900.

BTW,
Its a tough replacement, first time I had the glass replaced they scratched the roof and both A-pillar covers. I raised hell about it and got the glass replaced a second time, roof re-painted and the apillars repainted no charge. Use an experienced installer only! Preferably some one who has done a 370 before! |

Here in FL there is no deductable on glass and there are actually companies that will come do it and pay you $100 cash for the job... I used one for my beater Ranger and they did a fine job and did indeed pay me 100 bucks!
