Tinted taillights (pics)

Wasn’t sure which route to go blacking them out and ended up having a local shop do 2 layers of tint. Here are some pics.

how does the tint look in spots where there is raised lettering and molding imperfections in the plastic? Is the tint bubbled up?

Looks as if it would be hard to argue in favor of the tinting being legal in Tenn as it clearly states red. But that's only if an officer even wants to bother with the possible infraction. In my opinion, however, I'd never blatantly give law enforcement a justifiable reason to pull me over and ruin my day.

Or raising the likelihood of a rear end accident, over looks, IMO. I've been rear ended in my Z already without adding to it. The lights are red and reflective for a reason.

They'll do it anyway and lie that you were doing something you weren't. Been there, done that and helped fund the county coffers.

Well my ‘13 camaro SS I had for 4 years had the taillights blacked out also and never had an issue. It was vinyl cutouts so it was actually darker than the tint on the Z. I will turn my headlights on if I notice a cop around but so far so good.

That's cool. Could be one of those infractions that's technically on the books, but is never enforced.
I do think the blacked-out tails look great.... especially on your black Z.

With a method of light painting just to tone down the color mine are still red and reflecting. Cleared over and wax with the body, no tint to worry about peeling, facing etc.
