Default Hid bulb modification to make it fit

So I recently had to replace my headlights and bought a pair of D2S 6k bulbs.

At the time of replacing, I noticed the bulbs wouldn't fit until I removed the 2 plastic things(image) that stick out on both sides of the bulbs, Also noticed the previous bulbs also had the plastic things removed. So I removed them and it seem to fit.

But now I'm having the flickering issue and I cant exchange the bulbs since its been modified. So Im wondering if it is normal to remove the plastic things or is it just my headlights or maybe I'm doing something wrong??

Please let me know so I can replace my headlights soon

The 2 plastic things Im talking about are circled
