rear hatch
So I have a base model and put a rear spoiler on. The hatch now needs stronger lifts since it won't lift up(very annoying). YES I took out that 1 pound metal piece that was hiding. Is there an adjustment or modification? Do I just wait for a part out on 370z hatch with spoiler? THANKS

Find the hatch lifting springs. They have black and round covers. Twist the cover and it will pop out. Put 2 pennies under the spring for each side. Problem solved.

Is there a video of this, I have searched. The pennies will stay inside the spring? My friend thinks the latch at the bottom needs a stronger spring. Thanks for your insight. need to take a look at it better.

Here's another discussion about it:
Stuck hatch... The penny trick worked for me. Just look for the two blacks things coming down from the hatch on either side when it's open. You'll twist the rubber off then add two pennies into the bottom of the rubber piece and reattach the rubber to the hatch. It's not the spring in the release mechanism that's the issue. Good luck and let us know how it goes |

IIRC, there is a recall for 2009 hatch springs. If the penny trick doesn't do it for you, maybe call up the dealer with your VIN handy and see if you can get some new ones that do any better.

Update. This is the cheapest best mod ever. I read the previous forum threads and it has been updated to 3 pennies I guess inflation? I found the black boot twisted it off and put 3 pennies at the bottom and reapplied the boot. Now It pops up w/o relocking finally. I wish it would have kept lifting the hatch. Thanks for all your help. I wonder if the aftermarket hood lifts could be used for the hatch?
