Default Steering wheel cover

So the silver Z on my steering wheel cover has a crack in it. From my understanding, the Z is part of the steering wheel cover, and the steering wheel cover is ridiculously expensive because it comes with airbag assembly. I've been checking the 'for sale' section for a used cover/airbag for cheap but they're appearance on the market seems to be rare. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on fixing my situation? Is it possible for someone more skilled than I to paint over the Z or any other options?

I'm currently looking for a fix for this. I think I'm going to remove the assembly and tape off and paint the z. I tried prying it off but wasn't able to do much else other than mar up the surrounding plastic.

Thanks for the reply, I'm thinking tapping it off and painting is about the only choice we have. I believe silver Z is part of the cover, and cannot be removed, per others that have tried a decal/symbol swap.

Edliaszenik - let me know how it goes if you tape and paint! I'd be very interested in a "how to", tips, and/or lessons learned, thanx!

I'll keep you updated. I tried removing it but it seems like the z is not a part of the assembly but stuck in with posts. Without a drawing I'm risking making a big mistake if I go any further. I'm going to mask and paint sometime soon when I have free time. I wrapped the z in matte vinyl earlier and it looked great. I think I might try that as well.

Get a bunch of plastic drop cloths and turn your car into a kill room from Dexter.. then just paint it while it's installed.
