Default Long Life Battery

I wasn't sure about putting this topic here or in the engine section, but I think this is more appropriate.

I'm thinking about replacing my stock battery with something that holds a charge a lot longer. I have a Lukas LK7900 dash camera, with a huge memory, and I have the LK290 module so that I can leave it in parking mode while I have to leave it somewhere. However, this module will cut off power to the Lukas when battery voltage drops below 11.8V. This can happen in as little as 3 hours when the car is parked and the camera is constantly detection motion and recording clips (like in a shop for instance). Several times, this has resulted in my missing sections of video I would have liked to have.

Ideally this replacement battery would hold a charge for days while parked, even if the camera was constantly recording. (I don't know the exact current draw of the Lukas offhand, but it can't be much) Even more ideally, it would be the same weight or lighter than the stock battery.

What are people running for aftermarket batteries with extremely long life? I used to use an Optima Yellow Top years ago in a car with a big audio system in it, are those still 'the standard' in power holding? IIRC it was pretty heavy..

Any input is welcome!

I'm looking at going with the Red Top, more cca's & cost less. I do have yellow tops in both my trucks... Also red top is a bit lighter.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1435191336.980237.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1435191353.766251.jpg

Wow. So what is a yellow top even good for over a red top then? Lol. More price but less CCA's and less reserve AND heavier... Doesn't add up.

website for Optima says yellow top designed to discharge & recharge back up to 300 times...like for trolling motor use etc...made to run way down on voltage & recover without harming.

Ahh ok so that's why they suggest it for audio, if you're parking and blasting the system, etc and it drains your battery. Cool! Thanks for the info!

Yellow tops are more tolerant to deep discharge (thus deep cycle battery).

any solar panel charger options?

Hmmm.. I actually don't know if you can power the Lukas that way, though often when I want it most is when it's parked at a sketchy (Well, they are ALL sketchy in my experience) shop, and then it's indoors anyways.

If you want your car to start after it sits for a few days do not put a red top in it. I had one in my G37 coupe and if it sat for more than 3 days over the winter it wouldn't start. The battery was less than a year old so I had it replaced under warranty and paid the difference for a yellow top. I had no more problems, and left my car sit for a week just to see if it would start.(it did) We use the yellow top in our Police Fleet to replace the OEM batteries, because of the high demand put on the electrical system by the light bars, spotlights, electronics etc. The Yellow tops outlast any other battery(including red tops) by about a 3to1 margin. Odyssey makes an outstanding AGM battery but I have never personally tried one in a car. (I have one in my BMW motorcycle, and it's a bad sumabitch)
