Enabled Daytime Running Lights with lights on
Got my trusty tool kit out and worked on the Z this afternoon. Enabled my DRL to be on while the lights are on. It has bugged me that Nissan chose to disable that while the lights are on. The list of cars that have it enabled all the time is very long.
Anyhow pics below and very very easy to do. Disconnect your battery, pull the plastic shrouding around the area off. Pull out the IPDM box out which slides right out by pressing 2 clips. Open her up. Find the 2 wires involved with your DRL..cut or remove them from the plug. I chose to cut then wrap the ends in electrical tape. Strip the ends of the 2 wires for the DRL...then twist them together. Get yourself some thin gauge wire strip the end off twist it with the DRL lights...electrical tape it up to hold it together. Take the end of the jumper cable and put it into a quick disconnect (small one). Plug that into the empty relay. Basically your jumping power from a relay that always is sending the appropriate juice to the DRL. This keeps them on the entire time the car is on. They no longer will be enabled when the E-Brake is off. It will be enabled when the car is turned on. Sounds complicated but will take you less then 30 mins. I got the directions from one that is on here. There is another that is crazy complicated wiring this to that...that is not required really. You probably do not have to disconnect the battery but I've was a electronics tech on planes in the Marines for 10 years and now do it as a contractor...disconnecting power is always a smart thing to do when working with electricity.

Another thing to add...if the car is not on but you have the lights on the DRL will not be enabled. The power flows into that relay when the car is on. Cheers.

I've been wanting to do this for a while... Only thing I like about them not being on with the headlights is when you flash the high beams they alternate.
Do you have the link to the place to got this info? Maybe a step by step pictures? Thanks |
