Ok guys, I am just curious. Will the base transmission work with the sport? Does it have somewhere to plug in synchro rev or will it just no longer have

Base tranny vs Sport
Ok guys, I am just curious. Will the base transmission work with the sport? Does it have somewhere to plug in synchro rev or will it just no longer have synchro rev?

The transmissions are the same, the difference is there is an additional ECU/system controlling SRM on top of the transmission. I think if you take an transmission out of a base model Z you will lose it, but also might have to worry about the engine ECU not pairing up properly.

Oh ok, so just the ecu and synchro would be lost?

I wonder if it would be possible to use my sport ECU with the base model transmission

Might be tough to read but this gives a good explanation:

Could the ecu be transferred from the sport tranny?

It could be potentially, I do not know all the technical side of things on doing that, but I would imagine it is.
It might require a Consult III to help pair the ECU/Transmission to each other, I know this is required when the automatic guys do a built transmission.

My guess is that they will bolt up (but be ready to deal with something like trying to fit the rear wheels on the front - Nissan might have cast a simple slight variation that prevents swapping gearboxes). A bell housing swap would probably fix that.
And as for SRM, my guess is you'll just get S-Mode faults and an annoying error notification on your cluster. It wont blip because there's no gate sensor. How come you want to swap boxes? I had a feel of a base gearbox when i was in Japan 2 years ago. Man that shift felt sweet. It felt really tight and it had none of that notchy/clunky feel of my sport's shift. I'd even go as far as saying the throw felt shorter. Then again, a showroom gearbox is going to feel better than my then 30,000km box. We only get the touring sport spec here in Australia. |

Unless Japan has something different in their transmission, which I doubt since Nissan does not even build them, the transmissions are identical other than the sensors & control unit for SRM.

I don't want to swap. Just in case my tranny goes out again and I haven't sold the one I'm selling then I can drop this one I have from the base in there is what I'm thinking I love the sport tranny I have although shifts are notchy, especially when the weather is cold..
