Default Z clutch question

I tried digging for an answer here but couldn't find anything similar so..

Day before yesterday I visited a drag strip to watch. There was heavy stop and go traffic to get into the parking lot. About 5 to 10 minutes.

Yesterday going to work I noticed a weird sound kind of like a rattle, but not like the one where you take off from a start, in the high rpms 6500+. Everything works fine the pedal is a bit spongy but I read that's the Dot3 issue and it's a dark color and I need to change it.

Later that night the gear was put in wrong and it reved to redline or a little in the red. There was a burning smell after this kinda like the burning clutch smell, probably was. I don't know if I am hallucinating after that happened but I thought I smelled it faintly at higher rpms then on out.

I haven't tried to drive it today yet. What could the rattling be and I tried to rev high and shift into 5th and the clutch seems to grab fine no slipping. So am I still good or do I need to get a new clutch. Nissan dealership here said he thinks it's about 3 grand to replace.

If you CONTINUE to feel something is off I would get it checked

Don't pay Nissan 3 grand to replace a clutch HELL no !!

But honestly bro these transmissions are all types of weird, making new noises and feeling different everyday, I wouldn't worry if you don't notice anything else.

As for the rattle are you sure its not flywheel chatter? Very common noise, mine does it in first around that rpm before i shift to second every now and then

Is the rattle in neutral with the clutch disengaged?

Sitting still put the clutch in 4th gear. Don't have the parking brake on. Side step the clutch. If the car dies right away, clutch is good.

It might be the flywheel, I have just never noticed it at that rpm and it sounds a bit different. Where's a good tyranny place to take it to besides the dealer? My tiburon I had before was a dual clutch front wheel drive and only 2 grand.

Jwick - The rattle is when the car is in first and driving right until the shift change at about 6500 to redline. Just put it in 4th and let go of the clutch all the way? I'll do that when I leave in a few.

Yes - side step the clutch or let it out as fast as possible. If it grabs and kills the engine, the clutch is strong.

To be honest not many people have issues with the clutch itself. The CSC is crap, many members have replaced multiples. Mine went out at 1,200miles. The CMC appears to be a one use item and needs to be replaced if all the fluid is drained out of it. I would watch the clutch fluid and change it if it is dirty. Dirty fluid seems to speed up the CSC failure. Also switch to a synthetic fluid.

To further jaytirbhaw's point. These cars are noisy. The tranny makes a bunch of noise and the engine does too. You'll just have to learn what is normal and what's a problem. The car is pretty good at throwing a code if there is a serious issue.

Just cranked it up and threw it in 4th. Soon as I let the pedal go it grabbed lurched and cut off almost instantly. So thanks, I guess it's just noises lol.
