Sport VLSD into Base

I recently picked up a used sport package LSD pumpkin. What else will I need to install this or will it be a direct swap with the base diff?

If you're swapping PUMPKINS, nothing, direct swap

Great I was pretty sure it was going to be a direct swap but I knew some of the aftermarket diffs require a stub axle. Will also be upgrading bushings while I have it all dropped. Ill take photos and post the differences over open diff when its in. No she's not a track car just my daily that I take to ocassional drag or autocross events, I wanted to go with a Quaife but found a sport diff and thought I would try that first before dropping so much money

I have the base and have had no issues at the drag strip. Best time bone stock with it was 13.3 1/4 mile. As far as auto cross I don't know. Honestly I'm not sure if doing this is worthwhile but it's your car, your money, and your time.

You must not drive much. My quaife was the best mod so far for my base as I have complete control at autoX. When I drag raced in SoCal I spun like crazy, one wheel peel. You should drive a car with a proper lsd then report back.

OP, the sport VLSD is fine for occasional racing. Also how many miles were on that pumpkin as they do wear out and you can't rebuild them.

Yes I have ran my Z over 20 times at the strip and the few times it does break loose I have both rear tires spinning and hopping. They both even break loose if I throttle a bit too much from a red light and I have even boiled both of them on purpose a few times with the traction control off. I'm scratching my head on this but it seems more like a posi track than a limited slip.

Facepalm, I thought I was getting a pumpkin but I recieved the VLSD core. I think I am going to sell it and get a pumpkin so its a direct swap. Unless, is it hard or expensive to install it into my base diff housing or am I better off just getting a pumpkin.

Dude, it is a pain to do if you dont know what you are doing. If you want it done right then have a professional do it. As for just the VLSD install you are better off getting the whole pumpkin and swapping or just buying a better LSD and getting it put in your base pumpkin. But that is my from doing this last spring.

I would just throw in a better unit then rebuild the stock unit.
