Purolator PSL14610? any experience with this filter?

I know its been talked about countless times on what oil filter to use. I've searched the forum but no luck. I know many people use the Purolator PL14610 oil filter for our cars due to its lager size than many oil filters for our cars.

I was at kmart the other day and came across Purolator Filters. I was surprised they carried them? (not even our local O'reily's carry them) Well I found these synthetic oil filters made by Purolator that I've never seen before? I tried to match the correct oil filter number associated with the 370Z and found this, PSL14610?



Looking at some comparison with my Mobil1 filters that i normally use they seem to be the right size and fitting? Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this model oil filter for the 370z? It states that this oil filter is meant for synthetic oil also? good combo with the Z?

careful when use after market oil filters .. you don't want any oil pressure drop, our Cam's sprokets acting up when not feeded properly.

Not sure how good purolators are when it comes to flowrate ..
but unlike the yellow can (PL), PSL are synthetic pleats so should be fine..

Is there any evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) which shows that certain filters cause oil pressure drop?

Heaps of folks running non Nissan filters. Purolators, mobil 1, original k&n guts are very similar. If anything, the guys with aftermarket oil coolers using non Nissan filters and using oil with a hot viscosity other than 30 would be most likely to notice any impacts in VVT performance.

Not having a go at you but im keen to learn more too. I have always used Mobil 1 filters on my Z. Originally the slightly longer M1-110 but now the prescribed M1-108. Didnt notice any diff. I ran 5w40 oil for a few months and now im back to 5w30. The conclusion? VVT behaviour is more consistent and predictable on 5w30. Our engines are not corolla engines which will be fine with anything called an oil in the sump. It feels like the ecu has no self learning feature in the VVT control (compensation for component wear, oil viscosity, etc).

Bigger dont mean better. I use the standard 5 dollar purolater from walmart. 5 bucks. Same size as the OEM one that the designers put in.

This I have to disagree with my fellow Brit when it comes to oil. It's well documented that adding more oil to the system provides better oil cooling & lubrication etc (providing a particular systems pressure doesn't increase). Hence, an added cooler, bigger filter, pan spacer etc. I've always ran a larger filter on just about every vehicle I've owned. I think the larger filter is a dollar more. Are you sure your real name isn't cheapbastard...

Be careful with filter length on a 2012+ with both the OEM AND an aftermarket oil cooler. The longer versions will not fit between the pan and the subframe. Believe me, I tried. I can only speak for the Stillen kit, but the Fram filter they recommend, and matching filters, like the Purolator 10193, will squeeze on there and be fine once screwed down. Admittedly, that filter is gigantic in comparison to the OE model, so it is still an upgrade. I would like to know more about Purolator's synthetic and / or reusable filters. Are they better?
