Default Engine turns over but won't start

Ok guys,

Went out to the car to go to lunch, and the car turns over but won't catch. Never had this problem before. No codes are shown, nothing I can tell is wrong. I've got over 3/4 tank of gas in it, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Any ideas? Anyone deal with this before?

Thanks!

Fuel pump?

See if someone can turn the car to the on position while you put your ear up to the fuel filler, and see if you can hear it

I'll try that. What is it supposed to sound like?

You'll know, right when the car switches from off to on. It'll stay on for a few seconds

Had my buddy out there while I turned the car on. He banged on the fuel pump a bit, and the car turned on. Looks like I've got a pump going out.

Thanks for the assist, DE!

Was thinking that same thing banging the fuel pump. Where is it in the tank?

Also at what mileage do these tend to go . ? I notice rear bushes go at 35k. Approx.

My car has 61k on it. Yeah, he banged on the area of the fuel pump with a hammer. He says sometimes the seals stick when they are wearing out. (He used to be a mechanic) /shrug All I know is that it turned on when he did it.

Your buddy is probably right about it being a sticky seal (or something else in the pump increasing stiction) but I'd check for corrosion on the electrical connections before messing with the pump. You might get lucky and all it needs is a good cleaning of the contacts.
