Unless you have been running crappy gas or have other problems that might affect the combustion chamber, your plugs should still be in good shape. You can pull them and do a visual inspection (plenty of pics on the Intertubes).

Your plugs have 17k and they are like brand new. The plug should be good up to 75-100k. If you like throwing away money I will send you my home address so that you can give it to me instead.

In newer cars spark plugs are one of those things that you can really tell instantly if they need to be replaced. It's really hit or miss... Yeah! |

I think you ought to quit worrying about the plugs. As others have mentioned, modern plugs fired by a modern ignition are usually good for 50,000-100,000 miles (sometimes more). If the engine starts running rough, then start wondering if the plugs are the problem. Until then, forget about them.

I think if you do a lot of mods to the engine, then you'll require different (better?) spark plugs. But the reason is not because the original (OEM) ones are 'bad'; and more so because they can't handle the required load of work since they were not originally design for that type of application. Most guys that get forced induction (turbo) upgrade their spark-plugs as part of the kit. Also some NA engine mods will benefit from spark plug upgrades.
Other than that the old adage stands true; if it ain't broke don't fix it

It's not time that makes them go bad it's the amount of miles that matters. So don't think in years and months think 50-60k miles before you change and/or look at them. Unless you start to notice a problem earlier of course.
